Glue image transfer?

Okay, I wanted to do a stencil originally, but then decided I'd like to keep the image's detail. So how would I go about doing an image transfer onto fabric? I've seen it done with glue, so I was thinking, just use regular glue or wood glue of something and regular paper. Would that work??
