Help!

okay, so im a semi-kinda beginner crocheter...i can follow patterns very very closely as long as there's a pattern for me to follow.

however, i want to do something for my boyfriend for the upcoming movie that he's being "looking forward to for his entire life!". i want to crochet him a homer simpson doll.

i think i got the head figured out but im not sure what to do about the body. I thought i would do a rectangle and then make it into a tube or something. just really dont know what im doing! ahhh! anyone have any suggestions or a semi-kinda pattern that owuld get me close?
