craftgrrl | help with purse pockets

Hello! I am trying to find an online tutorial or some advice for making a purse with 3-D front pockets. Now this tutorial is the closest I have found, but the pockets seem to be attached into the bottom & sides of the bag. I need to figure out how to attach seperate pockets by top stitching them down. Is it as simple as folding down a small seam allowance to top stitch? I am using a very stiff vinyl which is the problem.

I've got the flaps made and attached, but I'm not sure how to attach the pockets.
