What are the dimensions of the film in a 35mm slide?

I'm "faking" slide film by printing images on laser jet transparency film and mounting them in blank mounts. But I don't have any real slides laying around that I can disassemble and measure or look at so I'm not sure if slides have a border to them.

I'm hoping someone has this random bit of detail floating around in their heads!

Is my image size 35mm wide, or is the whole film itself 35mm?
