Glass Etching
Jul. 15th, 2007 05:43 pmThis community has got me in a crafty mood, so today has been spent crafting all day long! I had a couple of birthdays coming up and I decided that I finally wanted to try out glass etching. It was soooo fun! The glass etching cream is expensive ($10 for a 3 oz. bottle), but it lasts through multiple projects, so it ends up being a fairly inexpensive gift!
As usual, I have to apologize for quality of the pictures... no matter what I did, I couldn't quite get the lighting right on some of the pictures to show off the etching -- it's so light anyway that it's hard to see!
Firstly, I made a set of goblets for a co-worker who is really into wine and cooking. I decided to do an insect theme because I know she likes ladybugs a lot and *I* love dragonflies. I found the goblets on sale at Bi-Mart today for $6!

Then I made a vase for a co-worker who really likes flowers. I found the vase at Michael's for 99 cents! I really like how it turned out -- unfortunately, you can't see it very well in my pictures, but what I did was put a dandelion at the bottom and then two butterflies flying up to the top.

I used Armour-Etch Rub 'n' Etch stencils and Armour-Etch Glass Etching Cream for the vase and I used the same glass etching cream for the goblets, but made my own stencils using contact paper and Fiskars Scrap-Boss stencils that I had in an insect theme.
