i posted a couple of days ago asking about stenciling onto paper.

as it turns out, waxed paper was my best option (easy to cut, gave the cleanest lines)...and at that, the result still wasn't great

unfortunately, the design looks terrible (much worse than i'd envisioned it) and stenciling every single one of the books will just take way too long (esp since the wax paper stencil only seems to last a couple of goes).

exhibit a:

= ewww....ugly.  not to mention i chose a bad color of light blue to go with the navy cardstock.  oh well.  i guess i can use the blue paint for another project of some sort.

i am scrapping said plan and going to contingency plan #1 (which is to NOT imprint a circular recycling sign around the hole in the cover, and instead to widen the hole so that the little circular border of dots on the title page shows through).

while i'm at it, any tips for making the cut around the circular hole smoother (when i pushed out the paper the edges got a little "shaggy" looking...can i file them down to make them smooth?  i don't have a circular punch).

will post results when done (though it won't be a particularly crafty result, i'm afraid...)
