I'd like to start off by saying that I've been through the memories and have done a Google search and haven't found anything that would help me. I know this is sort of long, but I'd really appreciate some input/help. Thanks!

My boyfriend's birthday is October 13th. He lives in Maryland, where I used to live, but I moved to Oklahoma in September of last year. We have an amazing relationship and I know it's crazy, but he IS The One. I know some people don't believe in soulmates, and neither did I before I met him. Anyway, his name is Jeff, he's turning 20, he's a welder but is looking into opening a tattoo/piercing shop with a buddy and he is OBSESSED with the band Avenged Sevenfold, specifically M. Shadows. He drinks ALOT of coffee and likes band teeshirts. I JUST got a job and I'm using the money I was going to spend on his birthday present for a plane ticket to go visit him for his birthday. Sooo I want to make him a few sweet homemade gifts, because I can't afford to fly out to see him AND buy him something. I really want to make him a coffee mug but I have a few questions because I don't even know if what I want to do would be possible.

I want to get a plain black or white coffee mug and decoupage pictures of his favourite band on it and then I guess varnish it or whatever. I want him to be able to use it as a regular coffee mug, and not just set it on a shelf to look at it. Is this possible? I want it to be safe to drink out of and safe to wash. He doesn't have a dishwasher so dishwasher safe isn't an issue. I know you can go to places and like, paint mugs and plates and stuff and then a day later they put it in a kiln or something and you can go pick it up. Is there a special kind of varnish or sealer I can use so that the mug still looks nice after years of use and is also safe for him to drink out of the mug. Any ideas?

I also plan on taking lyrics from songs that sort of relate to our relationship and tell him how I feel about him, writing them on coloured index cards and then on the back of the card, I'm going to write one thing I love about him, so he'll end up with a bunch of index cards with lyrics on one side and something I love about him on the other side. Is this a stupid idea? Is there someway I can improve on it? Maybe turn it into a book or something? I'm a scrapbooker so I love working with paper and stickers and all the scrapbooking stuff.

Example:

Front of card:

And maybe, we were made
We were made for each other
Ahh, is it possible for the
World to look this way forever?

-Jack's Mannequin

Back of card:

I love how you talk to me about your plans for our future, and how when you make decisions, you always make sure to come to me and involve me in your life.

Front of card:

Here I go, scream my lungs out and try to get to you
You are my only one
I let go, there's just no one who gets me like you do
You are my only, my only one

Back of card:

I love how you understand things about me that no one else does.

Anyway.
I don't want it to be too chesse-y, but I want him to be touched, even though I didn't get him something expensive, but something that I made that really comes from my heart.

Help?
