craftgrrl | DIY - fabric recommendation

After riding my bike and battling the little black flies, I need to craft myself a masque/kerchief/netting.
The bugs buzz my face in groups of dozens, and it's really disgusting to inhale them... gross, I know.

So, I want to craft something to not sheath my head (not a ski mask), more fashionable than a surgeon's mask, and lightweight/breathable to guard my face between the bike helmet and my heck from the bugs.

What kind of fabric would you recommend?

I forgot to take a photo of the necklace I just made until it was wrapped, but I'll post a pretty picture soon. And model the new anti-fly mask :-)
