Mod Podge Disaster

Well, I decided to do a little decorating today and I ended up mod podging over some magazine pictures. They pretty much just wrinkled up and now my project looks terrible. In the future, what can i use as a sealant that is a better product(also is there something waterproof? I am planning on making some coasters) ? also, an adhesive that won't cause my paper to wrinkle up like the mod podge did?
