Handspun Yarn

So I've spent most of my day on the computer, oogling handspun yarns on many different websites. I've decided that this is something that I could most definitely do.

What I'm wondering is, for those of you who spin your own yarn, is it a good idea for a beginning to start with a drop spindle, or should I save up for a spinning wheel? Also, if you have some sort of inside knowledge about spinning wheels, which do you recommend? Any tips that anyone can give me about spinning would also be MUCHLY appreciated.
