I bought address books for my kids. They are always calling me for an address and I remind them (if I remember) when there is a birthday coming up. These books not only have the usual address/phone number pages but also dates to remember/Christmas card list/directions sections. But the binder was ugly. I made the covers out of felt.
I got these plain wooden sleds on clearance last year. I saw the designs painted on fence pickets in a craft magazines.
I had my kids take pictures of themselves in front of their Christmas trees last year and email them to me. My youngest son never sent his so I put a picture I took at his wedding in his frame. I'm trying to get them to start a tradition of "Christmas morning pictures in front of the tree". I painted and embellished the frames.
This is a recipe box I painted for my oldest son and his wife. Inside are hand-written recipe cards of some of their favorite dishes. I put my daughter's favorite recipes in a cute binder. My youngest son is a picky eater, he doesn't have any favorite recipes.
They are also getting visa gift cards from a site online that allows you to down load your own picture to put on the card. That counts as crafty too, doesn't it?
