craftgrrl | World's easiest baby crochet patterns?

Hello!

A girl I know just had a baby girl and I'd really like to make her something(s). I bought some soft baby yarn and I was thinking about making some little booties or a smallish blankets. Then I remembered that I'm really not good at crocheting and knitting takes forever for me.

So, crafty ladies, do you have any recommendations for a "blankets-for-dummies" type of pattern? Or, alternately, a way to make my stitches a little more uniform. That's my problem, basically, my stiches are never uniform, which you can't really tell on a scarf because a scarf is usually *wrapped around a person's neck*, whereas a blanket can't be as deformed, I think.
