Butterfly candle sconce
Jan. 14th, 2008 12:18 pm So, last year about Valentine's day, my husband gave me the best present ever: a hobby welder. I absolutely loved it and cried like it was a diamond ring he gave me. Unfortunately, steel is somewhat expensive and I was not able to buy what I needed to really try out my welder. The only thing I had was a 4-mile roll of electric fencing wire that farmers use to keep their cattle in. It is rather small, so it took quite a bit of practice to learn how to weld it without blowing my wires in half. I've gotten better over the last year and have been able to put out a few things. It's also kind of fun to see people's reaction when I tell them it's farm-grade electric fencing wire. Anyway, here is a piece I just finished today. It is a one-on-one high-stakes swap for on swap bot. In return I should be getting a bunch of really great fabric and a book. The whole piece, minus the chain it hangs from, is about 1 foot tall, and 10 inches from wingtip to wingtip, complete made out of twisted electric fencing wire and painted with black Rustolium to help it stay looking nice even if hung outside.
