Tissue box notebook set.
Jan. 18th, 2008 09:02 pmThe following notebook set was made from an empty tissue box (the pages were taken from a half-used notebook that a student abandoned and asked us to throw out after a conference that I was helping to run - I wasn't about to throw such good paper out, so I kept it waiting for a time to use it, and that time came yesterday!)

[edit]: upon request, here are the posts i made about the sets i created last year:
- teddy grahams writing set
- cheerios writing set

[all names have been blurred out].
A close-up of the art emblems on the pieces (they were drawn on the same paper as the pages, with prismacolor soft pencils and sakura pigma micron ink):

This shot shows the binding better:

Packaged into a set:

Gift-wrapped (I was proud of myself for making the wrapping match the set!)

This is a semi-improvement on some of the cereal box sets I made last year. Those notebooks were saddle-stitched, which meant that, because of the thickness of the cardboard, they didn't stay closed very well. I used a different kind of binding technique this time, a side-sewn one, shown in this tutorial. Because the binding is visible this time, it's made with cream-colored cotton embroidery thread.
The set was made as a last-minute birthday gift (i blurred out the name, but if you look, the notebook cover is personalized...) I don't know whether or not the recipient liked it. She didn't open it in my presence. I hope she does!
