First sewing project!
Jan. 19th, 2008 04:13 pmI bought myself a sewing machine on the day after Thanksgiving, because we had them 60% off plus my associate discount, and I think I also had a coupon or something. Anyway. I bought a Brother VX-1435, and I used it for the first time today. And spent all frickin day on it. We got on pretty well, Sally (the sewing machine) and I, despite a few power struggles throughout the day. ;)
We even managed to make something:

It's a book clutch!

Now my books won't get all damaged when I toss them in my purse! I need to make a few more in different sizes to fit all the different sized books I have, but I spent enough time on the sewing machine today. Now that I've made one, I think the others will be a bit easier. And I have plenty of fabric left over. It was in the remnant bin at JoAnn's, so it was only $1.88 for .472 of a yard. It's 100% cotton and machine washable.

I didn't use a pattern, I just had a general idea in my head of what I wanted. And of course my mom was there to give me some advice when I needed it, which made it easier. I think it came out pretty good, if I do say so myself. ;P
