Check it out!!!
Mar. 30th, 2003 07:20 pmSo, i'm kicking myself in the ass for not taking pictures of the furniture before i started my work on it but here are a few close-ups and far-aways of my headboard and my footboard. There is still wood showing so you can get an idea of what it looked like before but i really wish i could have gotten a picture of the atrocious carving on the headboard that i covered up. I used Gloss-Lustre Mod Podge and i purchased two cd-ROMS full of pulp novel covers for the artwork from a company called Graffix Multimedia. I must say, they offered a really great selection of high resolution scans. my only problem was that there was a little logo in the bottom left corner of every picture.... it struck me that since i paid for the pictures that was a little unnecessary but oh well. The background is comprised of torn pieces of The New Republic magazine, a political industry mag. My old roommate left tons of copies and there were pages and pages of pure text. anyway, without further adieu...

ok, so check this out, here's the concept. All the pictures are covers of pulp novels. For the headboard, they are themed "Damsels in Distress." Can you believe that i was able to purchase a CDROM with 250+ images of women tied up, bound, gagged, and in danger of an ass kicking? something about this suggests that the pulp writers of the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's were WAY more in touch with fetish than anyone wanted to admit at the time.

Some detail...

detail of the left side post

the beginning stages of the footboard (look at that messy-ass workspace! thanks to my dad for letting me take up a bunch of his garage...)

Detail of the right side.

The footboard is also of course covers of pulp novels, this particular set themed "Pinup Girls."

some detail of the left side.

probably my favorite picture. Doesn't that look uncomfortable? ;)
