A few months ago I stole (with his permission, so not truly stealing I guess) a pile of t-shirts that my boyfriend doesn't wear much anymore. He was aware that they were intended for a quilt, but he doesn't know is that I've been working on it secretly to give to him for our 5 year anniversary a week today.

Notice how the checkerboard effect got mixed up in the top third of the quilt - whoops! I don't think it affects the quilt as a whole too much.

You can see lots of shirts in here - everything from Weezer and Rage Against the Machine to Street Fighter and the WWE.

I used a zigzag stitch to tie the quilt.

He's going to be so stoked about this: I bought the same He-Man duvet cover (well, not the very same) that he used to have as a kid on eBay to back the quilt. It wasn't quite long enough as you can see, but luckily it was more than wide enough so we made it work in the end!

I didn't use interfacing, for two reasons: I didn't like the way it made the t-shirt material feel, and it would have cost a fair amount to buy as much interfacing as I would have needed (I tried cheap stuff but it was awful). The lack of interfacing made it slightly hard to piece together, but I'm so pleased with the overall result - it's so relaxed and comforable.

I used 'reserve' weight wadding/batting, the thinnest I could find, so it has that thin blanket feel rather than being a big puffy bedspread. It's intended for being wrapped around the body on lazy mornings or being thrown on the sofa, so it's nice that it's so low key.

I've just finished it this afternoon and now I'm desperate to give it to him! I'm sure I can wait a week though... :o)
