Hand-dyeing fabric with turmeric

I like hand-dyed fabrics for cross stitch because they do add a depth to the background. But I know you can do at least some of them at home instead of buying them (though purchasing is easier!). I came across a recipe for dyeing fabric with turmeric and decided to give it a try.

I used this tutorial for a couple of reasons. First, it was easy. Second, we had a jar of turmeric from a time when Toly wanted to try it. Everyone in the house hated the smell and taste, so it's been sitting in the pantry ever since, and this seemed like a good way to make use of the stuff.
