I like hand-dyed fabrics for cross stitch because they do add a depth to the background. But I know you can do at least some of them at home instead of buying them (though purchasing is easier!). I came across a recipe for dyeing fabric with turmeric and decided to give it a try.

I used this tutorial for a couple of reasons. First, it was easy. Second, we had a jar of turmeric from a time when Toly wanted to try it. Everyone in the house hated the smell and taste, so it's been sitting in the pantry ever since, and this seemed like a good way to make use of the stuff.

Hi girls, it's me again xD Hopefully this is allowed here.. I just wanted to share a series I write for my blog since a couple of months now: "DIY from head to toe", as write in the introduction >> here <<, it's about "weekly posts, fashion related tutorials to dress yourself from head to toe, diy-ly".

Hey all, what are your experiences with fabric dyes based on kitchen ingredients? So far, I've only tried turmeric and it turned out great. But I did some searching and it seems that other substances (beets, spinach, red cabbage) do not come out so well - they apparently are very faint, wash out easily, or fade in the sun. I'd like to try plum peel.

Hello everyone!

I have a burning need of a rainbow coloured embroidery floss.

I was thinking about something like this:

Rainbow floss... )

Problem is, this particular floss is already sold out. So I've decided to make one myself. I've went and bought white floss and dyes. The problem is, I've never dyed anything in my life. I've searched for a tutorial to help, but couldn't find anything helpfull among the thousands of results.

Does anyone among You beautiful people know how to get that effect or maybe has a link to a tutorial? I'd be very, VERY grateful.

Sincerely,
CV

I have an olive colored canvas bag that I really want to dye a true blue or royal blue.

Should I try to remove the olive colored dye? If so, with what/by what method?

Or should I try to dye over it?

I'm sorry if the answer to this is ridiculously obvious.

I have an orange shirt. I want to make this shirt tye-dyed with orange, blue and white. Is this possible? Can I, maybe, use bleach to make the white, and once it dyes, use blue tye-dye ink for the blue on some of the white? Is there an easier way to go about doing this?

today was a slightly futile experiment in natural dyes without mordants.
