Cross-posted to Crochet.

I didn’t watch the Academy Awards tonight (well, that would be last night at this point), but I did watch another movie and while doing so, created this cell phone cover (to fit a Nokia 5160, etc.) No. 10 crochet cotton and a Size 6 (US) steel hook.

I like that I can tuck mobile technology into a little crocheted cover! This is a first test, I plan to see what else is possible.

I had mentioned two things from the issue of Ready Made and was asked to explain them...so here they are:

Concrete lightbulb -
1. File around the top of the base of the lightbulb, so that the base and the filament can be removed intact from the glass, which should also be intact.
2. Fill the bulb with concrete until it is full.
3. Push the filament into the concrete until the base touches the glass.
4. Wait for it to dry and then break the bulb.

Makes a fun paperweight or little sculpture.

The soapdish condom holder entails simply mounting a soapdish next to your bed for holding anything you might need...

you should pick up the mag - it's quite clever and enlightening

this weekend i bought a fantastic pin, made by a neighborhood artist. the pin is a real slice of orange with some purple glitter on it and a hearty coat of shellac. the rind isn't shellacked but it seems dried and sealed. i find it absolutely amazing. she also makes pins from slices of pear and apple (with stems), key limes, summer squash. and i guess she makes earrings, cuff links, belt buckles too. the pins were $25 (key limes $15) in a neighborhood shop. it's my new favorite thing.

the pin i love

is good enough to eat
