For putting fabric/paper on the AOL tins, which glue is better?? Hot glue, school glue, Aleene's Craft glue? What?
Thanks :)

My boyfriend was recently diagnosed with ultra allergies and has been made to use products which are hypoallergenic and fragance free. This will mean all soap, shampoo, conditioner , hand soap , deoderant, lip balm, sunscreen basically anything he comes into contact with.

Its been very hard to find such prodcuts even though there are brands like clinque that cater for it. however clinque is much too expensive to purchase such daily items and there arent many brands here in australia.

since i have started soap crafting , i found sites which sell shampoo , conditioner, hand soap bases.are these hypoallergenic? i figure the fragance free part was easy, just dont add any form of FO.

What about the current M & P soap i craft? [melt and pour]
is this hypoallergenic?
what sort of labels and ingredients do i look up to decide if a prodcut is hypoallergenic without having to reply on the label [like clinque which says in black and white they are hypoallergnic]

i hope someone can help and point me in the right direction.

Sew what ;)

I'm a very beginner-level sewer. My questions to the sewing pros out there are:

1. Can a beginner teach herself how to sew? If so, are manuals or online sites helpful?

2. Do you think taking classes to learn would be worthwhile and money well spent? (I live in LA and the classes in my area run about $200 for 6 sessions.)

3. What should I look for when buying a beginner's sewing machine?

Any advice is GREATLY appreciated! ;)

It's been a while, I used to be a member of this group when my LJ name was Rusakko.

Here are some new craftworks I have made:

Here is a traditional pattern,
I think you could translate the
name as "log house" or something.
One side has the pattern and the
other side has a flower fabric.
I made this bag for my sister.

I visited the Siberia. Life on the Taiga and Tundra
Exhibition at the Museum of Cultures in Helsinki.

There we made these traditional Siberian crafts,
this here is a mug made of birch bark.
It holds water and people who work in the woods
are able to make these mugs while they are there.
The figure inside is an old traditional " big bird of the forest".
It should have a hole in it's belly because "that's
where the soul is."

Here are two bead bracelets
I made for exchanges with
two girls I know through LJ.

Short time reader(so far) first time poster.

I'm looking for good books on braiding techniques. I intend to use it mainly for cords and wire, though there may be good existing work in hair-braiding books as well. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Hey everyone, I just joined...I used to do tons of crafts as a kid and I'm just getting back into it now, dunno why..here's a few questions for you though:

-I've been attempting to decoupage a little cardboard box using the lazy way - glue diluted with water. However, I'm not getting the shiny look that I see in pictures of successful decoupage projects. Should I use decoupage medium? Should I just put on more layers of glue? Should I paint over it with shellac/clear nail polish/something else? I haven't a clue.

-I'm thinking about making some homemade lip balm using this generic recipie. I haven't decided what flavor to make the lip balm yet but I know I don't want the oils to have a strong flavor on their own if I can help it. I know coconut oil and cocoa butter have strong flavors - what other oils should I avoid?

-Last, I have gifts for all my female friends on my christmas list (I thought I was planning ahead, but after reading some of the posts in this community I think maybe I'm late, heh) but I'm having more difficulties for the guys. I can't give them home spa things like soap and lip balm and I can't give them sappy things like personalized picture frames 'cause they're all still at that stage where they have to be macho ;) Any ideas?

Thanks a lot, everyone.
