Nov. 6th, 2002 01:54 amI heard from people that the soap I have been crafting (MP) was every drying to the skin. I have to say I used a bar of my honey vanilla oatmeal tonight and my face feels like a baby's ass.

Help me out here!
Nov. 6th, 2002 10:03 amI'd like to make one of those kitty hats for my niece, who is 5 years old, and the bear hat variation that someone posted awhile ago for my nephew, who is about 3. How should I alter this pattern so that it will fit their heads? Or should the hat be small enough as it is? I noticed instructions on the site for a baby's devil hat, but these kids are no longer babies (and my nephew's a big boy with a head as big as his sister's, probably). Thanks for any help you can give me!
yet another knitting question...
Nov. 6th, 2002 11:48 amto continue the trend...
i learned how to knit in a different language, so now when i look at patterns, the terms don't make any sense to me.. is there a website with explanations or pictures so i can get an idea of what the terms mean? thanks in advance ^^

Cookie exchange by mail!

OK, I've had this idea in my head for quite awhile: a cookie exchange by mail!
Here's how it would work:
Everyone (say, fifteen people) would sign up, and they would figure out the cost of a 2 pound priority mail package from my place (Buffalo NY 14210) to theirs (insert your own zip code here).
People would then bake say, fifteen dozen cookies of the same type. So I would bake fifteen dozen sugar cookies, Jane would bake fifteen dozen chocolate chip, etc. And then they would send fourteen dozen of them to me, individually bagged in one-dozen-per-bag lots... and I would send out one dozen of each type to each of you, making fourteen dozen cookies, different kinds, one dozen of each type, and we would have lots of different cookies for the upcoming holiday season!
My sister has done this locally, and it ends up being really fun.
Any takers? I'm setting a cap on twenty replies. So the first twenty people that reply can get in on this. If it works out well we can do it again.

I need your opinions
Nov. 6th, 2002 02:26 pmA few people from LJ have asked me to make them a kitty hat (based on this pattern). Which I'm happy to do. I've made the hat by the pattern, and I've made a few adjustments to it to "make it mine."

I have a question about knitting machines. I was thinking of buying one for my gift to myself for christmas this year. I was specifically looking into getting the Unltimate knitting machine as seen on TV because they have it at joanns and if you wait until it is not on sale you can use the 40% off coupon on it. [i have been watching it for months} i was wondering how easy it is to use... any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Hallo there! :-)
Nov. 6th, 2002 07:56 pmI've been on LJ for a few months now, and finally got lucky enough to discover this community. Although I won't be able to post anything interesting very soon, for lack of a digi-cam or scanner, I wanted to say hello, and tell you all how glad I am to find you. I'm a crafter in the worst way - everything from drawing to painting to woodwork to metalwork to beadwork to jewelry to sewing to clothing design to....you name it and give me the means and the materials, and I'll have fun with it! I've sold my creations before and have been told I aught to start selling them again - although I must say, I'm not expecting any commissions when you cannot even see what I do. Still...what kind of things are people interested in? O, not just to maybe buy, but to learn how to make, or get advice on matieral sources for?
That reminds me...I'll be moving to Chicago this Spring, with my husband. I'm looking forward to once again living in a place that might have crafting resources. (I used to live near NYC, where the Garment District was a very dangerous place for my credit card, and I had my choice of two metalworking studios to play in...now I live in a "city" with one tiny art supply store, that doesn't get much more intricate than paint and Sculpy.) Does anyone know where to look, in Chicago, for materials/tools/studio that let you play?

book wanted!
Nov. 6th, 2002 09:18 pmI'm fairly new to crafting - well, I haven't done anything since I was a kid, then I always had some sort of craft project on the go - and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good general, cool craft book? Thanks!
I finally did a granny square! I was so proud of myself. I just needed pictures.
A question for knitters/crocheters: Where do you buy your yarn? I really like fancy yarns, and chenille is about the most interesting thing I can find at our local Michael's & JoAnn's.

Nov. 6th, 2002 11:19 pmI've decided to do more craftish things this year, and was hoping someone could give me some ideas. My brother is a big D&D guy, and I spray painted a cardboard hat box gold and am planning on painting a celtic knot/serpent on the top of it, but what creative whacky thing can I make to put in it for this magic card playing, D&D DM fiend?
