does anyone know if theres any kind of stuff that would be good to use when stringing pearls? i found a bunch of antique real pearls in my basement, but they need to be restrung. i am nervous, cause its something i really would care about breaking and all that, so i dunno if dental floss is such a good plan in this case (thats what i usually use). any tips?

A general question for you all... does anyone besides me think Carol Duvall is on crack? I mean just "how" excited can a sober middle aged woman get over gluing wooden fish and rope onto a clay pot anyway???? Yes, I know...I ponder the damnest things on saturdays ;)

OOo....have discovered making soap. Oh too fun! I like it! So now I'm adding soaps to my slew of present making stuff!
I start making gifts the second or third day after Christmas! So, it's going to be soaps, oils, mixes, doilies and other neat things next Christmas and birthday pressies!

Something that I regularly do is take terra cotta pots and paint/decoupage them so they don't look quite so boring in my house.
However, I've been having trouble finding a good sealer. Since they do get wet on occassion, I need something that dries clear but is really water resistant.

Any ideas?

well, i had my first experience with circular needles, pretty much by accident. i was working on a scarf with no. 11 needles (plastic ones, becasue that's what i had in my mass of inhereited needles) and on christmas, i stuck the needles into the cone of yarn to take a break, set it on the side of the couch, then minutes later leaned on it, shattering one of the needles... so yesterday my mom and i went on a hunt for a new needle, but we could only find a circular size 11. feels very awkward to me, i much prefer straight needles, but this will make do for now...

also, what size (length-wise) circular needles should i use for arm/leg warmers? or should i use double pointed needles...?

I'd like to design and make my own rubber stamps. Has anyone here done this and if so, do you have links to resources for information and supplies?
Thanks!

Posted to beadwork as well.

Okay, so I am spending way too much time on beaded flowers. There are some more again. Here is the whole bunch of them.

I'm one of those girls that got a sewing machine for Christmas, and I'm really anxious to start making myself a whole new wardrobe. I'm finding tons of great vintage dress/skirt patterns, but none are in my size. I'm slightly husky and all I need is for the waist to be a bit bigger. I was thinking of buying the patterns anyway so I can trace them on paper and make some slight adjustments. Would this work? Any suggestions?

Thank you so much!

Okay girls, help me out... I *really* want to make my own wedding invitations, but I don't have any brilliant ideas, and I need to get started soon! I'm hoping to spend $2.00 or less per card, and it needs to be something fairly simple, since I need to make around 400... Does anybody have any ideas, or know of any good websites?

i hoped maybe i was getting my moms old sewing machine, but she got me a new one instead. that's probably better as the old one needs to be repaired.

so i've got my new sewing machine, i found a cute old folding sewing table/cabinet thing at the thrift shop for $15, i've got supplies, and a sewing book (though i'm thinking i'll skip the book for a while & just play with it some).

for my first (& hopefully easy) project i want to make a waterproof cover for a cheap dog bed i bought at walmart. i found some rain coat material that should work. now if only i knew how to sew ;) i'm really wishing i paid more attention in home-ec all those years ago.

Someone suggested a while ago making coupons for significant others as a gift idea. Any suggestions on what to include? My friend is looking to make some for her boyfriend who's birthday is in the end of January. I made some for my boy for Christmas, but she wants to make a lot of them. I'm out of ideas. What about you?
