Hi,

I just joined and if I can ever get myself to stop knitting and start taking pics, I'll have loads of photos of all kinds of projects (not knitting) to share. I've learned a lot from everyone already--thanks!

i checked the faq, but wasn't really satisfied. sorry.

i was just wondering if i could get some suggestions for the gift bowls i am doing for my friends. i am going to get some big plastic bowls and decorate them as "big bowls of self-esteem" with sayings like "i am beautiful." and "i am talented" on the rim. then i am going to fill them with "pampering/girl power" type things. for example, soap that i will lable "lather up and rinse him off," a mirror that i will decorate to say "i love me" or "hello gorgeous," and a box of chocolates decorated to say, "because cramps don't go away by themselves." i also want to make some journals and maybe candles.

i have several little ideas but i was wondering if you guys could think of anything else that would fit the theme and not cost too much (i do have a lot of crafty supplies but no sewing machine). thanks in advance.

(ps - i completely stole the idea and the quotes from uncommongoods.com and then modified to fit my project. they have some great stuff but it's so expensive...)

here are some projects i did over my winter break... now that i'm going back to school tomorrow i won't have the resources/time/money to make all the things i'd like. :( pout... but anyway, here are pics:

for my chemistry project, i have to teach the class how to make soap. i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to make soap from scratch/a website that would tell me, and have it be vegan? that would be soooo great!

Guess since I'm new here I should introduce myself:

Hi! I'm Beck, and I'm a craft-aholic. That's actually pretty convenient because I'm also an art teacher. :) I just wish I had more time and money to try some of the awesome things I've seen from you all in this community.

Right now, I'm painting a chair:

I think that's the right photo. If not, I'll post a better one.

Other than that, I'm not working on much -- just finished moving, but hope to get some inexpensive decorating tips soon. I've already gotten a few!!!

See ya 'round! :D

Oh, shit. See what happens when I try to post before the caffeine kicks in?

Here's my chair. )

good morning ladies!

i'm moving into a new school on saturday, and although the building i'm moving into is BEAUTIFUL (it's mcmichaels hall, for anyone interested in looking on the website), i'm terrified of my dorm room having that "dorm room" look.

anybody done any crafty projects to beautify a dorm/possibly apartment?
or have any ideas? i'm nervous about leaving and i need to keep myself busy anyway :) xx

help?

it just occured to me that i forgot to introduce myself...my name's Deb and i'm addicted to anything that is creative = )

that said, i picked up a set of 6 really beautiful taper candles yesterday and i was wondering if anyone has any ideas for making candleholders out of ordinary household items? thanks.

My parents had a new addition built, a garage with a room on top, about a year ago. I was lucky and got to move in! I have so much room, it's really really nice. However, it looks like crap. It's painted a really pale shade of blue, and nothing goes together really. I would paint it a new color, get new slipcovers for things, and a new bedspread, but that'd be expensive. Any cheap idea to revamp my room?

This is my latest venture into beaded floweriness.

The Queen Anne's Lace pattern used here is by Dalene Kelly.

I swear to God that I'm doing it exactly like the instructions say to! I can't seem to make a fucking french knot!!!! What the hell am I doing wrong?

Also, does anyone know if the ink that the pattern is printed onto the fabric with will go away after I wash it?

I saw the most beautiful fabric at the fabric store yesterday, I am wondering, has anyone ever made a comfortor before? How do you work with the fabric when its not as wide width wise as you would like it, sew two peices together? also.. I know on a lot of comforters the batting is sewn onto the top with a design type, ,but how do you do that on a normal sewing machine and get all the way to the middle of a big puffy thing?? :) Thanks!

hey ya'll!

here's a picture of my shower curtain which i just finished. the latice beadwork at the top was inspired by a poster on this board...i live in new orleans, so i couldn't resist doing one of these myself with all my leftover beads. thank you, whoever you were cuz my bathroom is so much happier. the bottom was easy with my glue gun i just glued on rectangles of clear vinyl, put beadson the top and slipped in postcards. we used to have one of these from urban outfitters and it was almost thirty dollars to buy. this is much cuter and diy! this is cross-posted in [livejournal.com profile] saucydwellings so you might get it twice.

I am working on a scrapbook, since i have a zillion pictures. I got photo corners from Walmart that were 1.67 in the photo section. If i had gotten the same thing in the craft section, they were 2.50 or something. I am also working on a CD wall. I hate CD cases, because i think they take up too much room, and serve no purpose. So, i put thumbtacks in rows, and i put 3-4 cds on each hook. Since i never listen to them anyways (all the songs i like are on MP3's on the computer), i didnt have to alphabetize them to make them easier to find. but, if i listened to them alphabetizing would be optimal. that is all :)
