Hey grrls,
-I am in the middle of making my first art quilt and its coming along well but some of the fabirc ive chosen to use looks too "new" ....I want to get an aged look and feel for the new fabric without having to waste tons of quarters at the laundry mat but i am not sure how to go about it..........
-Also i used some of that stuff you print out your printer and iron on fabric and im not sure if i can wash that and not have it bleed or anything - any tips regarding this would be so helpful.

Thanks in advance!

So the doctor I saw yesterday gave me some ideas on fabric.
I don't know if any of you get really cool dresses in at your local thrift store, but we seem to get some with NICE patterns, and for now on I think I will spend 3-5 bucks on a whole dress instead of find reprints of the retro fabrics for INSANE prices. :)

Here is a picture of the memory board that I made. The fabric was $1/yd at Walmart. I LOVE making these. Any excuse to use a staple gun...

cut! )

I did find, though, that it was a bad idea to make the ribbons cross where the wooden frame blocked them in the back, because it was hard to get in there and sew them down (oops).

I'm working with some sea shells to make jewelry and some of the shells are very thin and delicate and seem to be in layers of an irridecent material. My problem is where I have drilled the hole for the jump ring etc. seems to want to peel and break. Does anyone have any ideas on how I might be able to strengthen them? I'm thinking of using some poly-acrylic or something?

I apologize that I do not have pictures, I know it would help.

*crossposted to about a million other crafting/beading communities* sorry

I am going to do a bracelet for my brothers wife and it is going to be on a beading loom.
My problem is the bracelet is 34 strings wide and I am not sure how to end it on the ends and what to use for a clasps.

I made one the other day and the ending is not as clean as I would like it to be and it is only 10 strings wide.

Also i used the beading loom string that I bought from Wal-Mart and it seems to be too smooth to hold a knot.

Any suggestions on anything would do. I want this to turn out nice you know?

Like what string should I use? How should I tie of the ends? Should I use a single clasps? Or on of those clasps things that are bars and have like 4 or 5 holes on them and they clasps together (know what I am talking about??)?

Thanks

Here's what I did last night. No pattern just some idea. It works but I want to take it apart and sew it again the right way. Now that it's together I realize it is sewn all wrong. It's ok though. I doubt much of anyone would notice but it bothers me.

i'm an avid thread crocheter and have always struggled with an idea of how to "hold" the ball of thread while i work. i've tried ziplock baggies, boxes...anything i thought might let the ball unwind without tangling, and keep the thread clean and out of cat's reach ;) while i'm working. i finally found the perfect solution for me and thought i'd share it.

i have a baby wipe box from the kind that pop up like tissue (actually got it at Kroger). The hole where the wipes are to come out isn't a large hole but rather an H-shaped slit. i put the ball of thread in the box, feed the end through the slit in the lid, then pop the lid back on. It works perfectly, and i store my hook and pattern in the box when i'm not working. Also, i just carefully fold my piece in progress and snap it under the snap-top lid.

Hope this helps fellow thread-crocheters!

(This is cross posted to other crafty communities...sorry for the repeat if you're on more than one!)

someone just posted a link about magazine bracelets...

here's the way i took it )
instead of the snaps i used little round velcro stickers i already had. they work perfectly and stick so well i dont need to sew them.

I'm making a gift basket for Valentine's day for my guy's parents.... and I want to decorate it with some cute tissue paper flowers.. like roses and such, but I have no idea how to make them. Do any of your girls have instructions or anything? I'd much appreciate it!

I've been cleaning today and I found a bunch of counter samples from when I was thinking about remodeling my kitchen. They are about an inch by two inches, thin, and square with rounded edges and a little hole in one end. They are quite sturdy since they are made of that countertop material. The back sides of them are wood. Does anyone have any good ideas on what I could do with them? Before joining this community I would have tossed them but I bet you guys can come up with an idea for something fun to make. :)

Hey there! I've been a lurker here for quite some time and admired everybody's work without actually getting up the nerve to post. Well, I think now is the perfect time to join because I'm in a crafty mood and I've just obtained a number of old ties that I don't really know what to do with. I've been thinking about making them into belts, but I don't really know how. Any other ideas?

a post by a fellow member made me remember a crafty idea that I came up with a few years ago on how to make your own cheap, sturdy easel.

I work with big canvases and have little space to work so I needed to think of a affordable easel since a 100 dollar one was out of the question my solution.

A ladder! I found a nice wooden ladder about 15 bucks at Wal-Mart and stained it to make it look old and rustic. I used a couple 2X4 squares to make arms on the side, attaching them to the side without the steps, then I balanced a 2X4 as a tray (made to any length you want)to hold the canvas. Since I have little space, I use the steps on the other side to hold baskets of paint and cans of brushes. and the ladder is sturdy enough that you can even clip on a work lamp! Better yet it is multifunctional, if you ever need it for ladder purposes the tray comes off and the ladder is still fully functional.

I hope my instructions are not too confusing!

hi
i'm new to this community. i love to crochet, but i am having a very hard time understanding the books that teach how to make afghans and such things. i don't understand what the abbrieviations mean. if anyone could help me out by trying to explaining it to me i would greatly appreciate it. thanks a lot

another thing is i love to sew. i make patchwork pants and bags and i sell them. if anyone is interested in buying one or something, let me know and i'll send you pictures.

i'm also trying to make a scrapbook of like all my ticket stubs and pictures and stuff i have and i was wondering if anyone had any creative ideas that i could use to spruce it up a little bit more. thanks again
