Paint questions
Feb. 12th, 2003 11:15 amI have a plastic box (it had held those wet face wipe things) that I painted with acrylic paint last night. It looks good now, but it chips easily. This weekend I'm going to pick up sealer and I can't find any good info online about what kind I should get. I want something that can be painted because it's too cold for me to go out and use a spray. Just something to protect it from chipping. Any suggestions? I also want to use it on Altoid tins.
Also, the brushes I have -- Loew Cornell natural camel hair--shed terribly while painting. I have all these brush hairs that I'm going to have to pull out of the paint and then paint over. I figure I'll just use a sponge brush to do this. Is this shedding normal, a sign of cheap brushes, is there something I can do to avoid this?
I wish I could find a good site with information but they never go too in depth :/

Feb. 12th, 2003 12:32 pmfor valentines day i'm making decorating a little box and filling it up with homemade cookies and probably some candy for my boyfriend. i need some help though! i have it covered and mod podged with black tissue paper, so it has a cool wrinkly texture. i have the lid covered too, and i traced and cut out a celtic design, the True Lovers knot, out of red paper, and have some red ribbon around the rim. it looks so plain though! any ideas for decorating the sides without taking away too much attention from the top? i wish i could post pics, but i hope the description helps.

Feb. 12th, 2003 12:48 pmalright...i am making a few things for my boyfriend for valentines day.
one thing i am doing is i painted a little heart shaped box and decorated it and am filling it up with valentines and little candies (just like how we used to do when i was in elementary school). anyways. i wondered if anyone knew of any links for some good (not the cheap kind that i have found :\) print-out valentines.
i am specifically looking for vintage / retro type. i was going to buy some on ebay but there's not really much time left and i was just wondering if anyone knew of some printer-friendly valentines on the web.
thanks in advance if you have a link of what i am talking about, if not thanks for just reading my post!
next thing i am making is a set of magnetic poetry words in an altoid tin. i just wondered what type of words i should use...i know it might sound stupid. i have never really owned a set of magnetic poetry so i can't look at that. that might sound stupid but see if you can help me out!
posted later...
i am making a love-themed poetry set. i found a site that sells a love magnetic poetry set and it gives ideas of what type of words to use, i might be able to use that. however if you have tips please help. ;)
a haiku-themed set is another option...
i am also thinking of a few more things i want to make him, someone mentioned that they made their boyfriend origami flowers and put them in a vase. i might do that, although i am quite the novice at origami. i'll have to look around for a link to that, unless anyone knows it. send it over!
anyways, thanks alot.

Help...please?
Feb. 12th, 2003 01:39 pmI am almost finished with the VDay craft project of my dreams...but I need some advice. What I've done is decorate a nylon webbing guitar strap with sequins anchored by seed beads (it's a lot more done now, but here's a picture- http://www.shutterfly.com/osi.jsp?i=67b0de21b33641d2a42d¬ag=1 ) I want to put some sort of backing on it to secure the beads and hide the thread and I'd like to use an adhesive.
Can anyone recommend a strong but flexible adhesive to use with say...suede+nylon webbing or maybe nylon webbing+low pile faux fur? Does anyone have any other backing suggestions?
I'll post more pics and detail how I did this project when it's done...but now it's VDay craft crunch time! :)

pink cuff watch????
Feb. 12th, 2003 02:52 pmDoes anyone know where I can get a pink cuff watch? Urban Outfitter's had one by Dickies, but it's gone and Rip Curl also makes one but I had trouble finding that one too. I currently own a black cuff watch (thick band big face) but i really, really want a pink one. Any suggestions as to where to get one?

Feb. 12th, 2003 05:12 pmJust felt like showing off the pretty necklace I made a little while back. I make jewelry for fun, and occasionally for extra cash. This was a custom order by a friend of mine. It's all 11/0 seed and bugle beads on nymo thread, except for the clasp which is 24g silver wire, and the silver spacers(6 in all). I love beading, it's extremely relaxing, and a great way to get out my creativity.

Feb. 12th, 2003 06:17 pmtoday i made soap for the first time.
and it was much fun. my teacher had us make
some for ourselves (we're gonna sell the rest).
we did the usual v-day kitsch: lips, hearts..
and did some experiments with candy as well.
we're also selling chocolate and cards and other
crafts her class made. i've really missed crafting...
school takes so much time away from it.
