hello everyone. please read this post, i have a bunch of topics to go over. thanks.

I. you guys have been truly awesome about this BUT first and foremost i want to remind EVERYONE to please read the FAQ before you post.

like everything crafty, there are many projects that go in and out of style. there have been TONS of posts lately about duct tape wallets, fimo/sculpey, modpodge, what can i do with ___?, etc etc. these topics are all really super contributions to our community but i update the FAQ at least twice a week and still a lot of repeat questions are being asked. the majority of the week's entries get put in the FAQ and you guys are really awesome about this, i just wanted to remind everyone.

II. recently there was a post that tackled the issue of advertising websites + selling your crafts [see the post here]

in the community info i have specifically stated that if websites are being shared for the sole purpose of advertising your stuff to sell they are technically considered spam and should be redirected to those LJ communities specific to advertisements. i posted the link to the terms of service too. i am going to make a rule here and now that links and advertisements may be posted ONCE. i will then file it in the FAQ under -=-websites: craftgrrl member's sites-=-. if i or any member sees you advertising more than that once, i will have to delete your post.

please see the next topic for discussion for more on this. i have some good ideas that may set people at ease for this idea.

III. since the FAQ 101 idea of mine didn't go over so well i have a new idea!

this post inspired this idea. i think that maybe once a week or maybe even once a month someone should suggest a website up for review. i'm thinking like a craft product distro or homemade DIY goods personally owned site, etc. and i will create a poll assessing how much we all have used it, what we thought of it, recommendations, etc.

this will be beneficial to the people looking to sell things because if there are no suggestions for these website reviews, i can just pull the sites out of the aforementioned websites: craftgrrl member's sites thread on the FAQ.

sound good?

IV. and lastly. just FYI.
[livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl currently has 1,578 members and 698 memories in the FAQ to browse through!

that's all guys. sorry for the long-ness of this post. i really had been meaning to address those issues. thanks for reading all that and PLEASE leave comments/posts about what you think, feedback, any issues about all this.

thanks again :)

Hey. I recently realized that i am in desperate need of some new socks, so I went and bought a couple packs of plain white ankle socks. However, these are really boring. Is there anything I can do to make them more unique? ( I did look in the FAQ, but i guess socks aren't really a normal craft )

The other day I saw a girl decorating a ordinary pen with embrodiery floss. She was putting a name on it and it looked very cool but she got off the train before i could ask her exactly what she was doing. I'm probably not describing it clearly --- but does anyone know what i'm talking about --- and if so how to do it or what it's called???

thanks

My friend has just published a book on crafting, I'm so excited about it. She has such wonderful ideas. Perhaps she would like to sell copies of it online, I'll ask her. I am super-inspired right now, and as soon as I can, I am going to start working on things. I want to do a lot of decorating, even though I'm moving out this fall. Also, I got my digital camera fixed so now I'll be able to post pictures.

The main reason I'm posting is to thank [livejournal.com profile] kimmercake for the wonderful FAQ section...I've been a member forever, and the best thing EVER is going through the FAQs and seeing your own post, or your own comments. So nice. I don't know what I would do without craftgrrl, I love you kids.

this is a picture of the invite i did for my son's birthday last summer. we found blank postcard size jigsaw puzzles at a independantly owned toystore in Portland, Maine (the place in the old port with all the kites, if you know portland at all). With permanent markers I just did a basic info on the party. He colored in the paint pallet.

They were about 40 cents each. Then we broke them up and mailed them to his friends. I think we did 10 altogether.

(The theme of the party was "art", hence the painting references.)

They went over very well. One might have to search for them as I haven't seen them at the Big Official Craft Stores, but thought I'd share these because they are worth seeking. Good luck on the hunt.

I'm planning on making a charm bisquit quilt, and was wondering if anyone wanted to help me a bit?

I'm asking for your scraps - cut into a 4.5 inch square, 100% cotton (I'd prefer pre-washed, but I'll take what I can get..). Anything you can spare could really really help me oodles... just stuff them into an envelope, but a stamp on it and send it to me and I'll be absolutely ecstatic and share lots of pictures of the finished quilt with you (whenever it happens to finish) and dance around and sing your praises...

This is the first time I'm posting here, so I would like to start off by saying that you craftgrrls make the neatest stuff! You're all so artistic and talented! I recently completed a fun project, so I thought I'd share it with you. The girls in my residence have been busy making shirts with beaded letters, so I tried my hand at one! Here are the results!

The Shirt!

I checked out websites on copyright laws and they were all sketchy. I couldn't tell if I was doing anything wrong. I'm sorry if you are tired of posts regarding this, that's why I used a lj cut. I did check the FAQ before posting this and still wasn't completely sure.

THANK YOU!

My FIL got one of those MSN discs in the mail. I took it and turned the case into a crochet hook holder! All of them fit - from C to N. They rattle a bit so I'm thinking I might add some velcro inside to hold them down. I took the advertisement out of the cover, cut some postcards to fit and slipped them into the plastic. Voila!

Hey! i had a really good idea and I want some feedback and ideas.

I'm going to make a "Fun Box" of things to put in the trunk of my car (of course it could be in your dwelling as well) of things to do when you CAN'T think of anything else to do. So many people are indecisive so I think that a box of whimsical and fun things to share with friends, or do alone, would be an excellent way of being creative and having a good time.

Here's a few things I have so far:

+ Sidewalk chalk
+ Water balloons + a bottle of water
+ Frisbee
+ Cards
+ Some sort of game
+ Ball
+ Hacky Sack

I want more than this but my brain isn't working right now. Anyway, what else should I put in it??
And also what are some good activities you can think of when there is nothing else to do and/or you are really broke?

Yesterday I saw this really cute red polka-dotted belt in a store for $15, but I knew I could make one myself for a lot cheaper than that so today I went to Jo-Ann Fabrics and bought some red ribbon with white polka dots and some D rings and made my own belt for like a dollar or two.
I apologize for the big run-on sentence, but I always get so excited and proud of myself when I do things like that. :)

Has anyone ever painted a wall, and then painted over it in a darker color using plastic bags (like sponging but slightly different)? If so, do you have any suggestions/tips or anything else for someone who is going to attempt it?

I am low on funds and so I'm selling my stuff off. First of all I have a dressmaker mannequin. Not like the kind in the stores but the kind you see in Joann's or Hancock's. That's where I bought it from. Its about medium size for breast sizes 38-45 and waist sizes 40 - 47. It can go to all different heights. It's barely used. Ive only had it for about 3 months or so. Its $65 or talk to me about it and we'll work something out. They are originally 169 and when they go on sale they are 99 so this is a deal. ( I work at a JoAnns so I so know hehe =))
Also: I make dresses, skirts, purses, book bags, quilts, pillows, bedspreads. I can make a whole room arrangement (bedding stuff and sheets and curtains and pillows and stuff). I will post pictures soon I hope of things Ive made. Ive been selling a lot of my purses and book bags for 20 bucks. I am one poor on my way to college student.
