Do you know how to clean brass? I did a search on yahoo and I saw that you can use vinegar to clean brass. But I was wondering if anyone has ever used it, how well does it actually clean it.

I have some heavily tarnished dresser handles that I am trying to clean. I used a metal polish called Mothers but it is very labor intensive and doesn't get it completely clean. Any suggestions?

Hi all!

My coworker brought me back some vurry pruddy sea shells from her vacation at the beach, and I'm soliciting ideas on what I could do with them? There are a couple of the large, flattish ones, and then various smaller ones, all carefully chosen and pretty close to perfect. I was thinking of doing something with that Envirotex stuff I keep hearing about, but WHAT?

Also, a question for any experienced candle-makers: I've seen "beer candles" with a foamy head... how is that effect achieved?

And lastly, I had a productive Sunday! I made a corn bag, a buttload of soaps, and re-dorked an AOL tin! Check my crafts section of my website : http://www.skwairpeg.com/Craft%20Projects.html -- scroll down to the bottom of the page for the links! Whee!

Are you making anything special for Easter and/or Spring? I am going to my first craft show and I would love to get some ideas of what to make. Please post pictures, and instructions of how to do it. Thanks.

Anyone have any brilliant ideas for phrases or what not they would stencil on a shirt or bag if they had a chance? Ideas they'd like to uh... lend to me?

"Obligatory cuddle shit" is one that I have from myself, but I can't guage how amusing the phrase is to someone other than myself and a particular friend. Probably not very.

Oh oh! Or like some sort of drawing design... ?

I'm looking for online sweater crochet patterns, something that is one solid color. Most everything I can find is big baggy bulky. I'm hoping to find something a little more curve-happy, if you know what I mean.

Anyone know any good links? Any skill level is fine. I can hold my own with a crochet hook. ;c)

Thanks in advance.

...I found this bead on the ground a LONG time ago ...prob at least 5 years ago ...on a school playground.
Surprisingly, it also glows in the dark!! =D ...It looks like just a normal scupley bead from the looks of the pattern and stuff...but it's in a cool flower shape!

My webcam sucks...my bad.
Anyways...I wanna put a hole through it so I can make a bracelet out of it. I tried safety pin and it easily goes through, but the hole is WAY too small.
HELP would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance!!

Hi everyone! I haven't posted in here for a while but I have been reading all the posts and getting much inspiration. I'm even dying Easter eggs for the first time in years, hooray, I'm so excited ^_^

Anyway, I started knitting a Harry Potter scarf using the pattern here (PDF - open with Adobe Acrobat). Even though I won't be done in, well, forever (I'm the slowest knitter in the WORLD! argh, the pattern calls for 17 stripes and I just started the third), I wanted to ask a question about finishing up the pattern. It says "sew seam for length of scarf"....what exactly does that mean? I'm assuming that since the picture looks like there's no "wrong" side to the scarf that the pattern is telling me to fold it in half and sew it up, purl side in? Am I right?

Also, I was trying to weave in the ends from when I did my first color change and realized I didn't have a tapestry needle or anything...but I found out you can use a safety pin! Just close the pin up, put the yarn through the circle deal at the bottom part of the pin, and then use it like a needle to weave the ends in. It's cool ;)

Last thing - I found out today that the spring issue of Knitty is out (I'm slow, sue me) and there are so many awesome patterns in there. I can't wait to finish this scarf so I can try some of them out!

I was looking through my mini craft drawer and found this stuff:

water bottle, snapple and toothpaste caps
popsicle sticks
seashells
hard plastic ice scrapers (the size of a credit card)
playing cards
scrabble letters
old style clothes pegs
flat magnet pieces
lots of googly eyes
ribbons
beads
music buttons

all the little things Ive been collecting forever. I know how good everyone is with ideas here, so if you can think of anything. I have other stuff too, these are just the things I've had forever and haven't done much (or anything) with.

chip bags

I don't know if this has been brought up, but I remember doing a craft back in guides with chip bags. we melted them in the oven until they became small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. then we stuck a pin through them and put them on our hats. course, you could put a magnet on the back too, they're quite neat.

I don't have the specifics, but the oven has to be on a high temperature. Then you just put an empty single-size chip bag on a cookie sheet, stick it in the oven and watch it til it melts enough to shrink down, but not too much or it'll curl. it hardens up too.

I know it's not much to go on, but if anyone feels like trying something new out, give it a try!
