I'm new to this community and am only recently getting back to the idea of making things myself. I used to make a lot of gifts myself, but job/career started taking most/all of my time. Now I'm at a point where I can go back to those ideas. So here's my question:

I saw some hemp anklets at the store, but am really not interested in buying things like that that are mass-produced. I'd like to make one myself, but don't know how, and don't see books on it at the craft stores I've gone to. I've seen some books online, but would like to look at it first to know that it'll have in it what I'm looking for.

Does anyone know of any sites online that would have instructions for different kinds of hemp bracelet/anklet designs? When I did a google search, it just came up with sites selling books on it.

alright, i have a question. i want to make a shirt with iron-on letters. simple, except that i want it to say 'muñeca' [spanish for 'doll']. i can't seem to find any iron-on transfers that have an 'ñ', or even a ~ [tilde] that i can put on top. has anyone seen this or have any ideas where i can find one? are there iron-on transfer sheets where you can cut out your own shapes?

thanks!

Hey! I'm thinking about trying to make leg warmers for myself. (Not the knitted kind, but finding a material I like and using sewing and such.) Sounded like a good idea, anyway, hehe. I think I have a basic idea of how to do it, but does anyone have any tips on making them?

Thanks!

I was under the impression that you could not advertize auctions and sell things in this community, or am I mistaken?

I'm teaching myself how to knit so this made me break out into a total gigglefit. I thought some of you would appreciate this as well.

Also, does anyone have any tips for someone just learning how to knit? Like good size needles to start with, yarn types etc. I'm totally clueless.
[Edit] I'm such a dork I didn't notice the post before that was on knitting. ^^;; Sorry 'bout that. I'll figure it out for myself. ^^;;

i bet you could make good "ouchless" hair elastics by taking infant tights and cutting the legs into rings. i have an elastic that looks like that and it's great.

If you take...
2 parts ‘translucent’ sculpey
1 part ‘white’ sculpey
the teensiest pinch of ‘terra cotta’ sculpey
a few drops of sculpey softener
...and marble the colors together well, you can make a fairly believable faux alabaster.

i am supposed to be studing for exams, so of course the only ting going through my mind are millions of craft ideas, not millions of math problmes. anyways, does anyone know anythign about making a swim suite out of a material that is:
55% polyester
35% cotton
10% spandex ?
i know how i would cut it to make the pattern, but i'm just wondering about stretching in water, advice on elastic or anythign else so that it doesn't fall off!
any comments would be helpful!

I'm in the trading mood.

I just bought some new drinking straws. I like the bendie kind. So now I have 29 un-bendy straws. Does anyone want them? I'm not sure what you can do with them, but those of you who like to do collages might like them. First one to email me (hfa@livejournal.com) with their address can have them all.

Thanks,
Heather

I bought some new blank t-shirts at a great deal of $2.40 each. they're hanes, good quality and all. (direct from a supplier, that's why they're cheap) so I got a few to paint on. I've only done one so far - an orange shirt with pacman chasing the ghosts. I've also got a turquoise blue, a charcoal grey, a lime green and a navy. now all I gotta do is decide what to paint on all of them. I might do another simpsons shadow one like I posted a while back. I'm not sure though...

I just thought I'd share with you my tshirt picture.

I seem to have gotten a bit of black paint on the side, which sucks. but I can live with it.

ok, my bf and i are going to paint the outside of a bookcase to look like a film reel. the plan is to decoupage movie pictures in the middle - but as far as the sides of the reel - rather then attempting to draw all those straight lines and be precise i figured a stencil would work MUCH easier.
does anyone know of anyplace i could get a film reel stencil?
i've done extensive searching online and had no luck!

For those of you that use services that limit your bandwidth to host your pictures...

If you put them behind a cut tag, your allowable views/bandwidth use will go further. This is because everytime, say, I refresh my friend's page, it pulls your pictures from the hosting site. (And I refresh a lot!) Now... we have almost 2000 craftgrrls, according to Kimmer's latest count. Even if only a quarter of them views their friend's page 3 times a day, you're looking at well over a thousand page views...

If you put it behind a cut tag, the interested parties will look, but you won't be using up quite so much bandwidth quite so fast.

has anyone read this article?
She's so silly, doesn't she know we just like to craft because it's fun and fullfilling?
[identity profile] squarerootofpi.livejournal.com
okay after reading that horrible article where our love for crafting has been warped into some sort of reaction to life after 9/11/01, I decided to work on a letter to send to the columnist not in the know at Charlotte.com.

But before I complete my letter, I just want to hear from all you crafty fearless chicas (and chicos) out there who hold their crochet hooks, and knitting needles, glue guns and exacto knives proudly and not in terror:

Why do you craft?

I craft because it keeps my creative brain juices flowing. BEcause it relaxes me. Because crocheting is a craft that has been passed down from my great-grandma to my grandma to my mama and to me. I craft because a handmade modge podge box with homemade stationary tells them you really care. I craft because I am imaginative. I craft because I love a good challenge. I craft because it makes me happy. i craft because I can.
