i was feeling crafty one day and decided to make some stuff:

the big star is a keychain i made for my mom. it's basically just a wooden star shape with a hole drilled into it (i don't have a drill so i had to use a fork and a sharp steak knife). i painted the front yellow and the back bright blue. to make it sparkly i used this glitter paint stuff that has moon and star confetti in it. after it dried i applied gold glittery fingernail polish as a varnish and used a piece of an old dog tag necklace i had to string through the hole. and on the left is one of those altoid strip tins. i stuck a powerpuff girls sticker onto it and then used a red glitter pen to cover the rest (i left the bottom portion of the tin alone though). after it dried i just used a black sharpie to outline the sticker and once again used the fingernail polish to set it. as for the inside, i just smashed up a stick of lip balm and put it inside. so it's now a lip balm tin! i gave it to my sister nicole. they are both a lot more sparkly in person than in the picture.

my little sister has an english project due on monday.

they are supposed to make a mask, (they're reading romeo and juliet) being as creative as possible. they're not allowed to buy one of those plain masks and decorate them. it's supposed to be the type of mask you would find at a masquerade.

any idea on what to use as a base? i was trying to think of a way to create one totally using pipe cleaners. i don't think that would work.

suggestions, please!

I decided that my contribution to my friends birthday party (shes having a luau) was going to be gel candles that looked like cutesy drinks...

I'm a soapmaker so the process of making gel candles came naturally for me...BUT...it takes soooooooooooooooooo long for the gel to melt...I've decided that gel candles will definitly be a "once in a while" thing for me because its too time consuming...unless i can figure out a way to get the wax to melt faster.

But anyways, here is what i did :)

I have a sewing machine in my basement and it works, but when I push on the pedal the needle doesn't move. I figured out that this thing was the culprit. Here's a picture.

That thing should be a circle but it broke, thats what spins the thing to move the needle. I can still use the machine if I spin it to turn the needle myself, but I would really like to be able to use the machine for its original purpose. Now my question is, what is that thing and where can I buy a new one? I figured I would have to try to replace that thing and see if it works. I feel kind of helpless because I have this sewing machine in my basement and it doesn't really work and I see all of these terrific sewing projects I could be doing. Sorry for no pictures of the machine itself, I only have a webcam. It's a Kenmore, the kind that comes with the table, and I'm not sure how old it is but it's many years old if that helps :) Thank you =)

Have any of you guys made beaded dolls?
I'm working on a new one and I could really use some inspiration! It's going to be brown and gold and orange and it'll have a tiger-eye stone for the face!

Here's my very first doll: my idiot :) )

Do any of you have any tips or tricks for this kinda thing? I haven't found much material on HOW-TO, more pictures than anything else (although I can't say that hadn't been of great help!).
Thanks!

When you are beading something with string as opposed to wire, how many times do you go through the beads? I'm used to useing tigertail, but have been doing a lot with thread lately, and don't want it to fall apart!

Hey girls - Do any of you know how I can transfer a photocopied image to concrete or clay?

Woo! I went out and bought the stuf to do a mod-podge box for miscellaneous papers and "stuff". I wanted one of those wooden boxes, but they wanted $19 for one! Ouch!

Annnyway, the mod podge is fun, although I don't see how they expect you to put a "thin" coat of it on, that stuff is *thick*.

They had several kinds, so I just bought the pre-mixed "outdoor" variety...I assume it'll work OK?

I decided to go with leaf green paint, pages from Dante's divine comedy, and glitter. So far, so good!

My best friend graduates this year and I am stumped on what to give her. She's been the person that's held me together and got me through the past three years. Any suggestions as to what you'd give your best friend who is graduating?

Has anyone ever tried using magnetic paint before? The idea I had considered was getting a piece of wood and painting magnetic paint on it. Then decoupaging pictures of us over the past three years on top. Is it possible to decoupage over magnetic paint, will magnets still hold to it? I know that when you decoupage sometimes it gets all bubbly. Is there anyway to avoid that happening?

I'd appreciate any kind of suggestion!
