o/` She wore, blue velvet o/`
May. 15th, 2003 01:11 amHey kittens! (And kats...)
I have bit of a pickle. I am looking for blueprint paper - the kind which is used in ammonia blueprinting machines. I'm not sure of the exact name, but it's photo-sensitive and thus if the paper is left in the light, it goes bad.
Searching ebay, I only came up with one auction where it was, alas, an open box - thus rubbish.
Do any of you guys happen to know where I can find some, either online on in the Los Angeles area? OR! Do any of you crafty girls'n'guys happen to work or go to school where blueprint paper is available and could perhaps snag some for me?
The paper is being used for a project for my college portfolio (scream) and I can't seem to find some anywhere! I'm at a loss! I would be *so* grateful if you guys could tell me where to find some, and hopefully on the side of cheap.
Thanks!

pillowcase skirt gone wrong
May. 15th, 2003 08:54 amWelp, last night I proved to myself that I can take any project that is deemed very, very easy and turn it into a complicated mess. I speak of the pillowcase skirt. You've heard about it. A 1-hour (if that) project that results in a cute little skirt that you can just slip into and go skipping away...
yeah, right.
I followed the directions I found online (at GetCrafty) and ended up with a skirt that was too long and took waaaay too much tightening of the drawstring to not fall down on me. And I'm a thick-waisted gal.
So in a fit of overconfidence I took it upon myself to try narrowing the waist. Now I have a skirt that is far too tight, except replace "far too tight" with "impossible to put on", and I've already cut the extra fabric off and I'm not at all experienced with sewing and I'm very unhappy because I just want to make a skirt and show my Benny that I made something pretty to wear and whaaa.
So I beg of you truly crafty girls, please help a struggling wannabe craftgrrl learn how to make a simple skirt! And please keep in mind that you are talking to someone who is apparently learning-impaired when it comes to things like this.
Thanks...

Someone tell me I'm not the only one who has $0, but still looks on ebay for bolts of fabric, skeins of yarn and funky beads.
What will I ever come to. ;)

does anyone have any fun ideas for what to fo with stryofoam? not the kind that you use for floral arrangments, but the kind you get from grocery stores that have produce on them...
we have so much here and the last thing i want to do is throw it away...

fixing zippers?
May. 15th, 2003 09:46 pmIf anyone can help me, I know it's all of you:
I bought a pair of pants years ago and on like, the second wearing, the zipper suddenly stopped meshing and I found myself at an event with a fly I couldn't close (very embarrassing). I never got rid of the pants because I really like them, but never figured out how to fix the zipper. So my question is: is that possible? And in any way where I'm not going to have to worry about it undoing itself again? Or should I put in a new zipper (can you do that?)...? Or are the pants trash?
Thanks!!!

May. 15th, 2003 10:27 pmHey hey ladies
Over the last few months in the UK, the health warnings printed on the sides of cigarette packets, tobacco pouches, and so on have got a whole lot bigger. not a smoker myself, I didn't notice this for a while, and when I saw a friend take out a pouch with a huge Smoking Kills logo on the side, I thought it was a sticker he'd put there as some kind of ironic joke against himself :-) Anyway, I've been noticing more and more of these slogan warnings around the place, usually on emptied boxes scattered in gutters and around pavements, and some of them are so blunt as to make me laugh out loud... So, like the skanky ho I am, I've been collecting people's discarded packs, and am wondering just what I could do w/ all these cautionary messages.

Those are just a few, I have several more, and a ten minute walk around my neighbourhood could get me at least another 20, I'm sure (at least I'm providing a street cleaning service). Anyway, I'm wondering if any of you lot have any ideas as to what I could do with the things! Probably just the slogan 'squares' rather than the entire packets. If I were a smoker, I'd probably be a sarky snark and decoupage a cigarette case w/ the things. But I'm not, so I won't. I was thinking maybe a bag like those magazine cover bags that have shown up here lately, but no idea where to get clear vinyl from in these here parts...
Anyway, any ideas?? Thanks in advance
ps - fyi, I'm not rabidly anti smoking, though I don't smoke myself, and would rather people around me didn't, for my comfort and their health. I'm not trying to be a militant anti smoking evangelist here; god knows I drink way too much. Maybe it's time spirits came w/ Vodka rots your liver faster labels or something...

circular needle trouble..
May. 15th, 2003 10:44 pmi understand how to knit with 2 needles...i'm trying to learn circular needles. supposedly this is supposed to be easier? I'm having trouble..
do you have to cast on a certain way (i know there are several differnt methods..)? could this be my inital error?
I'm using a 10 mm needle. it seems to be a lot chubbier than circular needles i've seen pictures of.. could this be adding to the difficulty?
to my understanding the point is to connect the first one in the chain the the last one you knit?...it seems as though i don't have enough stitches cast on---i'm PULLING on the yarn to try and connect them. am i going about this all wrong? is this part of the process?
help!
i'm not sure if i clearly illustrated my question/problem, partly b/c i'm not exactly sure what's wrong. any help would be greatly appreciated :]
first time modge-podger!
May. 15th, 2003 10:47 pmOkay, I'm addicted! A good friend of mine is moving to another state and I wanted to give her something that she would love, remember me by, and be able to use. So, I made her a box! I bought a wood box with sliding lid from Michael's Crafts and painted it white first and distressed the edges with sand paper. Then I modge-podged it with a bunch of poems I photo copied from library books and some textured tissue paper I found at Target for a buck. It turned out so cute that I helped my sister make one for her friend! We put some Disney song pages and pink textured tissue paper on a steel gray box. I think they turned out well!
I'm filling mine with stationary, stamps, envelopes, and pens. Now she'll have no excuse not to write!
:)

May. 15th, 2003 11:20 pmso...I figure that with some 1969 members that maybe at least one other member also lives in or around Athens, Ga? and maybe they also knit and could tell me where I could buy mohair yarn? they never sell it in any chain stores around here.
another alternative would be to order it online but I only if I can't find it

May. 15th, 2003 11:35 pmEvery year I've wanted to use my worst school papers and tests for a papier mache project or sculpture but I never seem to do it. It's be a good way to use up something negative without simply throwing it out. What do you think?

May. 15th, 2003 11:43 pmplease let me know if this kind of question isn't allowed... but i have some stuff i am wanting to "garage sale" so to speak. if i made a site, you think anyone would want some old NKOTB stuff?
i am looking to sell not trade. it's mostly tapes, videos, some sheets, and a few other rare things.
i don't know. sound intriguing or waste of time?
