i'm making travel journals for some friends that are leaving in a couple of weeks to work in the US for the summer. being completely devoid of creativity, they're mostly just collaged magazine cutouts, mixcds, and random things stuck in envelopes. there are so many pages to fill and i am running out of ideas...help?

sidenote:
are there any boston or massachusetts craftgrrls out there? forgetting about quincy market, the freedom trail etc, what, in your opinion, as massachusetts natives, would someone visiting for the first time have to see or do in boston? recommendations that are cheap or free especially welcome..

I just got a sewing machine and I have a question.

When I try to sew, the thread gets all tangled around the bobbin area.. like in the machinery. It's an old machine, bought in '85, given to me recently. A Necchi.

Can someone help me?

Does anyone have any suggestions where I could find that type of material used for retro barstools that looks like sparkly red patten leather? I am making little barstools for a model and I need to find some fabric like that or something that closely resembles it. Thank you!

hi! i saw this site http://www.boobyfish.com/beadfairies/pocketshrine.html and fell in love with the idea of a pocket shrine swap...cuz of course those shrines rock. then i thought about how cool it would be to organize a pocket shrine swap for this community, with pocket shrines to *crafts* as the mutual theme! the possibilities boggle the mind! anyone interested?
(kimmercake--i understand if this is too off topic and must be deleted. sorry if it is!)

Went garage saleing at lunch & bought two pairs of jeans to practice making into
skirts, a 12 & 18 for when I lose more weight. Paid $1.00 for both. Now I realize
they are teenage boy sizes not woman sizes. Oh well, I can at least practice on them.

my best friend's 18th birthday is in two weeks and i need some gift ideas.

anything is better than the "just give her money for a tattoo" gig that i've been pulling over the years.

I have a few sheets of thin canvas that I've painted and decopaged- and I wanted to hang them all on thier own. I was wondering what I could use to stiffen them so that they feel kind of like hard plastic? I bought some fabric stiffener and that stuff is WEAK! Also, if anyone has any creative suggestions on how to hang them, that would be a help too :)
I asked for help with a baby mobile not too long ago and I finally finished it- i'm taking pics now...where can I post them?

I wasn't able to find this specifically in the FAQ/memories section, so I hope you guys can either help me out or point me somewhere that can:

I just bought a couple women's front-button dress shirts (or "blouses" if you will) online. I bought them a bit too big on accident and I need to take them in, but i'm not really sure how to do that.

They're supposed to be for work, or else I'd just use ragged sewing/cutting and safety pins and make them look punk rock or something.

They are also slightly fitted and I want to keep them that way.

I don't really know where I should start and if I should take it in at the sides or at the back or what.

thanks!

mew. long time lurker, first time poster and all that jazzle. ♥ basically today i was inspired by loverly felt-lovin' girls on here and so I made my own fetus purse (i'll find the link in un second...) and i was *trying* to make a possum purse that would hang upside down and things, but then after i got the body done, i forgot what its ears looked like, so i made a mouse, and then an elephant, and, bleh. i also got bored and glued googlyn eyes and jewels to my sneakers. pretty little-kidlet-ish, but, it calmed me down and things and that's what's important. :p

a while back, somebody posted something about making little purses out of old hardcover books. let me try to jog your memories... it sparked a debate over destroying books (it's wrong vs. its okay because tons of books get thrown in the garbage every year) and the gal who posted it said that she saw kelly osbourne holding a bag like this in an issue of seventeen (or a similar mag). does anyone know where i could find this post? i looked in the faq with no luck.

anyone have ideas on how to get the pages out of a book in an orderly fashion? and how about an adhesive... what would be good to glue fabric for the lining to the cardboard book covers??

Why don't you...

Cut the straps off your old white, patent leather easter purse and carry it like a clutch?

I want to do a painting on a scarf in bright colours.
But I don't know if fabric paints are similar to acrylic or oil paints, since I've never used it before.
I've read in the Memorable Posts section that I can mix a fabric medium into acrylic paints, but would it still look puffy?
Also, are there certain fabrics I must use (i.e. Cotton)and must not (i.e. Organza and Satin)?

Random tidbit of info. Something to make you appreciate patience, all you crocheters.

My mother crocheted her wedding dress.

She said it was with really difficult yarn, too. And at the end of the day, it was like, a foot longer than at the beginning. You can see it in the photos. (No scanner available en ce moment.)

LOL, what can I say. She was a young hippie. Comments?
