Two questions:
1. Can you dye out detergent stains? You know those nasty orangish stains you get when detergent leeches all the color out of your clothes?
2. I want to decontruct and reconstruct a Chinese silk shirt (it has alot of stains). What can I line it with that isn't silk? I can't afford to buy new silk!
Thanks everyone!

I sold 4 or 5 soaps yesterday at our garage sale, but someone actually was nasty enough to steal a bar!
I displayed them really cute though in these baskets and everyone was stopping and looking at them.

so, i was watching mtv cribs the other day and was looking at the rock stars who have their albums in frames with pictures after they sell so many and i got an idea. i went garage salinmg today and got about 7 albums, decoupaged pictures on one of them (of my friends and family ad stuff) and put it in a big picture frame. i painted designes and stuff on the background of the frame and when it dried, i hung it up. it looks pretty cool. and i just thought id share:)

Hello crafty people.

I originally posted this poll in [livejournal.com profile] crafty_bizness and was hoping to get a few more responses.

Basically, I'd like to hear from people who sell their crafty items via a website. Do you or have you used Banner Exchanges to promomote your crafty self and your crafty website full of crafty goodies? Tell me more!

The poll can be found here: http://www.livejournal.com/poll/?id=141551

Soooo. I have been blessed with an entire craft room to myself. I'm very happy, I finally have a spot for ALL of my "craft junk". The only problem is, the room isn't that 'pretty'. It's a room in the basement, and has concrete floors and brick walls. The upside to this, is that I have absolute free reign to go crazy on decorating. The problem is, with such an open thing, I'm not sure what to do... I was thinking maybe doing black and white.. Black floors, white walls, and black shelves, because I have some very cool black and white artist drawings given to me by the previous owner that could be hung up.

But, I'm just not sure. I really would like to do something a bit more cool than just paint, maybe with some different textiles. The only nono is carpet, as I do a little painting and tend to get messy. With a hard floor (wood, linoleum, just painted) I can just wipe it up. SO! This is where all YOU craftgrrls come in! I need suggestions. I have very weird tastes so nothing you say will be too far out there. (ex.: i have a ken head impaled on a jack o lantern sippie cup that is a prized possession of mine) Fabric glued to the walls? Paper on the floor? Go crazy!

I look forward to seeing what ya'll come up with!

Iron-Ons

Has anyone here used the special iron-on paper you can run through an ink-jet printer? Any success? There seem to be quite a few different brands and some have good reviews on Amazon and some have mixed. With Father's Day approaching, I was thinking of making t-shirts for my dad and step-dad and I don't have a lot of time for trial & error. Thanks!

I have this awesome dress. It's black velvet and there's some red material underneath that shows down the center of the dress in the front.

My problem is, it's also under the armpits. Now under the armpits it's turning red from sweat.

It was an expensive dress ($100) and I want to keep wearing it, but can I get rid of the red somehow?? Is there a special stain remover for something like this?

hey everyone! I'm new here and I love crafts and things of the like!

I've got a cute lil diy crafty idea for everyone.

We all have old tights lying around right? Well, you can take them cut a whole in the crotch and on the ends of the legs where the feet go and that will make a cute lil small top under shirt type thing. If ya get what I'm sayin. I know thats not the best description of what to do..but yeah..:) It's cute :)

Hey. Like many, I'm not new, just a lurker and sometimes commenter.

Anyways, I got this tank top a few years ago at a second hard store.
I never really wore it, even though I liked the colour.
Just too boring, I suppose.

So, I did something with it... )

I just bought a light like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2326768640&category=20704

for $4 today at a used store...

my question:

it is black, like the one pictured, but my apartment is going to be light neutral colors, with light blue and pink highlights (at least that is my intention at the moment..) do you think i could paint over the black wood with a neutral colored paint? what kind would i use.. acrylic?

i've looked through the FAQ and i'm quite sure this isn't there: what's the best way to glue foam sheets together? i don't know, maybe it's just me, but nothing i use really makes them stay together right.

Hello...this is my first time posting...so I'm pretty excited about this. This community has definitely inspired me over the last month or so and I have to say that I'm always impressed with all of you. I didn't have a craft project of my own to share, but my mom just made me three really great totes and I wanted to show them off. You can check them out here:

http://www.craftychimp.0catch.com/craft_projects.htm

You may have to cut and paste this as I'm not sure it'll work.

It rained...alot today...as it always seems to do on my weekends off. So I decided tomake some crafty typre stuff. I sometimes make my own envelopes out of construction paper...hey they are bright..I like that. But today when I made them, I was annoyed, (for lack of a better word), with how plain they looked. So I glued some of the straps on them and got a whole brand new envelope. Very cute. I put pictures behind LJ cut to save room.
Also I made a sun catcher out of transparent pony beads and sunction cups and plastic lace. I forget where I got the idea from...hermpfh...but it turned out very cute.

enjoy!!

ideas!!!!

i'm in the middle of repainting my bathroom lavender and the trim will be a very very pale lime green.

the problem
THIS

is my medicine cabinet/mirror. its a great design, but the condition it is in is ugly. its very pitted and oxidized and the light bulbs stand out, but the area is too small for any fixtures/scones i have seen.

what can i do to make it pretty? i can deal with funky but not TOO wild. a focal point of the bathroom is a quilt square my grandmother made before she died of a pansy in lime and lavender colors. its a quilt square, yes, but its a quilt square with lime green in it...

so any ideas?

Hi. I'm nearly done knitting squares for a simple afghan (saw it years ago in a Delia*s catalog and yelled, HA I CAN MAKE THAT!). I want to crochet the pieces together and then put (i think) a single crochet border around it. Trouble is, crochet is so hard for me but I promised myself I would do it because it looks better than just sewing. I made a few granny squares once, but that's all I can do. Can anyone recommend a good guide for doing this? I've been hunting but in vain. In particular I can't find any good hints for crochet-as-construction. Also, I knit the squares on #10.5 needles. What size hook should I use?
