a long time ago i began working on a book for my so for our 1 year anniversary. well...at 6 months he broke it off with me x.x i still am very interested in altered books though and came up with two ideas of fun subjects!

1. romance through the ages. i plan to start as far back as i can. pictures of couples and wedding stuff [cakes, gowns, etc]. cheap cracker jack type rings. old love letters. bits of wedding ceremony services. love poems. etc etc etc. ooh and lots of pink and white fabric/ribbons/paint/etc. cutouts of hearts. images of hearts. retro valentines. conversation hearts. any more ideas? i've already got the book. i want to paint it pink...leaving the gold embossed pattern. what kind of sealer do you recommend? pictures to come as soon as i'm done!!!

2. women's etiquette. i'm sure you strong girls have heard of The Rules. i plan to make fun of this book and others like it. if you can find a copy of a book like this please tell me. i'd love to have scans of the pages!!! anything that pops out at you =) i'll also use pictures of girls with books on their heads, doing curtsys, hosting dinner, etc etc. not sure what sort of non-image things to use. probably will also be painting the book pink [i love pink!]. any suggestions of titles for a hardcover etiquette book to look for? i'm at a loss.

anybody willing to send me clippings, scans, fabric scraps, ribbon bits, lace pieces, broken eyeshadow/blush, etc etc for my projects?? got valentines, love letters, etiquette books, anniversary/love cards, etc you can scan and send? send me anything you can fit in an envelope and send for what you consider a rasonable price. in return if you ever need the same sort of thing i'll be sure to scrounge up some things and send them. email me if you have anything =D

Dragoncon, a major sci-fi convention, is less than a month and a half away! Time to get sewing!

I could really use some ideas for costumes. I was thinking of going with the Greek Goddess thing, but so far all my toga experiments look like a blob of fabric with a robe around the middle.

My other two notions that involve fabric I already have are a comic book character and a Three Musketeer type (for my Boy). So my specific questions are these:

Has anyone ever made their own frog clasps (often used on Asian clothing)? I want to get red clasps to match my trim, but it'd be much easier to guarentee a match if I just made them out of the same trim.

Does anyone know of a site or company that may have a pattern for the 3 Musketeer split cape/tabard? Or has anyone free-handed a pattern for something like this and can give me advice?

i want to dye part of a shirt (the sleeves) What do you think is the best way to do this? I read in the memories about detaching, dying, and reattaching, or covering the non wanted-dyed part with wax, but that seems really hard and time consuming. SOOO i was thinking...could I dilute fabric paint (so its not so stiff) and paint it on the sleeves? Do you think that would work? (is it even dilute-able?)

pretty much what I did was, make a bracelet using the embriodery string that you would use for cross stitching... and then after I was finished that, sewed it ontop of the dog collar.
its cute no? =)

I checked in the FAQ already, but does anyone know any free places I can use to host my pictures?? I've already tried - seemesmile.com, foreverfree.com, boomspeed.com, fotopic.com, the free space AOL gives..I think that's it, but none of them are working for me :( So I hope one of you can help me. Thanks =)

Hi! I run Makaiju Distro, and I'm looking to expand what I carry to more crafts than just zines. I hope that if some of you are looking to sell your creations you'll consider dropping by and checking Makaiju out. ^_^ I'm especially interested in stationery, postcards, jewelry, and 1" buttons, but clothes, handbags, and the like are equally interesting. ^_^

First post, and I'm comin' in with a bang...

Okay, here's what I want to know. Am I the only one who cannot find STRETCH fabrics that are not SKANKY LOOKIN'???

I have all these fabulous patterns that call for "moderate stretch knits". The only stretch fabrics I can ever find are really heavy (like stretch denim) or swimsuit fabrics, or really scary looking, Tonya-Harding-on-crack "activewear" prints in horrid colors.

What the hell? Am I insane? Do decent knits exist? I know the clothing manufacturers can get 'em, because I can find them in the stores...in things that don't fit me! Which is why I want to sew my own! !%$#!@%$!@#!

Sorry to rant, this just drives me freakin' NUTS!!!

(I know there are ways to alter stretch patterns to work with wovens, but I'm just not that good! Also, stretch fabrics look really nice when fitted properly. Aaargh!)

Apologies if this is not an appropriate place to rant about this. Couldn't find any mention of this problem in the memories. =)

I've been looking at this community for quite some time and finally decided to join recently. This is my first post. While I enjoy all things artistic/crafty, I don't usually go beyond my usual drawings and paintings. But I decided to do some t-shirt designing recently with some friends. This is my first attempt. By using a simple fitted t-shirt from Old Navy and some red fabric paint, I created a Harry Potter "quidditch jersey." It's not too fancy, but I'm pleased with the outcome. You can see the pictures in the LJ-cut:

To those of you familiar with fabric paint, how long should I wait to wash it? And what's the best way to wash it? By hand or by using the gentlest cycle my machine has to offer?
