This Desktop Mobile is *such* a cool idea. Now to figure out where to buy the piano wire.

I wonder if the music store sells them individually...

hey remember me and my chucks from a few days ago?

Well, I finished them!

more )

I stitched little metallic stars on them, and the writing "have a seat while i" on the left foot and "take to the sky" on the right. The song lyrics are from "Take to the Sky" by Tori Amos.

While I'm here, I'd like to show off my duct tape wallet I made yesterday. I wanted a blue one, but I ended up getting red, so it is basically identical to the one in the memories section. anyway... )
That's all for now!

i've been searching this morning for an art doll community and can't find one, so i was wondering - would anyone be interested if i started one? i haven't made any art dolls, personally, but i'm going to start as soon as some fabric scraps arrive from an order i made this week.

i'm thinking crafters could share tips, pics and how-to's, maybe even make some fabric/button/trim swaps with other comm members.

let me know what you think!

Some of you may recall Herbert. Well, here he is, tusked and clothed and in his full glory.

I finished him months ago, but lost the cord for my camera, soo... :D Thanks for all the input you all gave me on how to finish him.

OK... SO I bought this huge poster, it is about 5 feet x 3 feet. I don't want it framed.. so I looked into getting it laminated, but that would cost me around $90.. which is way more than I want to spend (i only spent $18 on the poster). Does anyone know if it is possible or reasonable to get something this size dry mounted? AND.. if that wouldn't work, I remember reading somewhere (i checked the faq's...) about making a frame out of 2 pieces of plexi glass and bolts and stuff? anyone else heard about that?

Thank you for the help!!

my friend's mom decided to re-do his seven year old son's room...and he wanted a comic book theme for his room...so they got my boyfriend to draw the stuff on the walls, and they helped him paint and stuff...here's the outcome...it's not done yet.

A while ago I bought some Rose Flower Water and some Orange Flower Water because I thought the bottles looked neat (my guilty pleasure is nifty packaging). Anyway, does anyone know what to do with them. I assumed they were for making candies or potpourri, but I am not sure. It was sold in the foods section of an international market, so I am thinking it is edible. However there are no ingredients or anything because it is an international item and most of the stuff is written in French. Let me know. Also, this is my first post to this community, but I have been wathcing it for a while and giving suggestions. I figured it was time I shared, so I did.

ok chicas...after seeing the movie "the rules of attraction" a zillion times, i am very inspired by shannyn sossaman's character lauren. she just seems to wear the neatest clothes ever. i have all these clothes that i would love to re-do to make them funkier and more appealing to my style. the problem is, i have no sewing machine. so before i start, i guess i have a couple questions:

1. i have a couple old wool sweaters that i would love to make into cardigans. will i ruin the wool if i just cut down the middle of the sweater? i don't want them to unravel. is there a better way of achieving a cardigan?
2. i have tons of old mismatched buttons that i would like to add onto a couple of shirts i have. they would be for decorative purposes only. is there anything wrong with just hot-gluing the buttons right onto the shirt? or would that cause problems?

i love designing and art and i have a very creative eye, but i've never done clothes before. any feedback would be mucho appreciated!

gracias

Behold people!! This is just one of those things you have to look at for hours on end and drool over. The man is crazy!
[identity profile] angelicate.livejournal.com
I hope this is allowed, if not, please delete it.

I sell on ebay a lot, and a lot of times I have crafty supplies up, mostly sewing patterns, and I'd love to give some of the people here a shot at them, but don't want to clutter up this community with spam (I know, it's not even allowed.). I created a new community: [livejournal.com profile] ebay_crafty to plug your craft supplies auctions or auctions for your own handmade stuff.

so the icon/banner poll was really successful - in total there were 355 votes! thanks everyone! if anyone wishes to check it out again to see the final results, click here.

just to clarify this image is going to be used as a promotional/advertising banner for [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl. this can be used where ever for what ever purpose!

so, without further ado, with 194 votes/54.6% THE WINNER IS..

here is the code for it, simply copy + paste it to your journal, etc:

<center> <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/community/craftgrrl/"> <img src="http://cartan.cas.suffolk.edu/~keough/images/ljpix/crafty.jpg" border="0"> </a> </center>

also, for all of you who did not vote or choose this design, under this LJ cut is the tag for every icon so you can just use the one you like the best.

with that said though, the winner will be used as the official [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl icon.

codes for the runners up )

disclaimer: this isn't mandatory but hear me out.
if you can copy + save the images to your computer and upload them to your own webspace and then change the image URL in the banner code you choose, that would be helpful because i might exceed my bandwith with this project.

and if this is all technical/computer babble to you, never you mind.

I've had a good look through the FAQ and memories but I can't really find the specific help I'm looking for so I was wondering if someone could lend a hand.

I've spent the last couple of days struggling with my first sewing project - a bag made from the bottom of an old pair of frayed jeans. It's finished and the sewing is pretty good but now I'm not happy with the 'look'. There was this old style Chinese dragon affair printed on the leg I used for the outer flap bit (hard to explain, but basically its the front of the bag) and its not really my style at all. I was thinking of writing some lyrics down one side to make it a little more interesting (I know the idea itself is a little over-used, but hey, nevermind) but now I'm worried about making some big mistakes and ruining it.

I was wondering if anyone could link to a few pictures of other craft projects in fabric with lyrics on them so I can see how other people have done it before I attempt my own or just provide some helpful writing-on-fabric tips.
Thanks!

PS - From this project I’ve learned of a good way to achieve the frayed and worn look on the bottom of jeans. Use a tiny bit of bleach, applied with something like a cocktail stick along the very bottom of the trousers leg in an uneven and broken line and leave for a minute or so (this can be repeated so don’t go crazy the first time out) before washing out thoroughly. After it all dries, fold the trousers and bunch the bottom up then go mad with a bit sandpaper. With a good bit of elbow grease you too can achieve that ‘been-dragged-along-the-ground-for-years’ look in under an hour.

i bought an awesome 'free tibet' shirt at a music festival in april. the guy selling it told me that the sizes were all wrong so i decided to ignore them and just hold the shirt against another one i had bought (that fit me!) to see which size would be better. it was raining and the ground was muddy, i was wet and cold and couldn't be bothered trying one on. as a result, the shirt is far too small for me.

so i decided to attempt to make it bigger. i unstitched the seams on the sides and under the arms and sewed extra stretch fabric in the sides. but i think i did it back to front because now i have the dilemma of trying to sew the arms back together with some extra material to make them bigger and i have no idea what to do! everything i try seems to make the material bunch up or just look strange when it is put on.

i know there are directions for making big shirts smaller but does anyone know of any for making small shirts bigger? i checked the faq's and couldn't find anything. any help would be appreciated! i'm considering just shoving it in the back of my cupboard, unfinished. i'm going out of my mind!

Ok, all you crafty people out there. I discovered this site recently, and thought how all of the stuff they sell wholesale on their site would be sooo easy to make. Thing is, I have a bunch of other projects I'm currently working on myself so I don't have the time to figure it out myself or to get started on them, BUT I will have some time in the near future.

Anyways, my challenge to all of you (if you so choose) is to have some fun figuring out how to make these things-especially the pins and buttons, although I would like to make all of them. I know how to make marble magnets, but it seems that for theirs they glue a picture in a little dish, and pour something (possibly epoxy?) on top of it so that it domes but is smooth(maybe sanding). Anyways, none of it looks too hard and I know people in this community have varied talents so someone on here might even already know how to do all this.

Well, have fun all of you who take up this challenge. I can't wait to hear the results!

OK kids, heres the deal:

I have this REALLY old ugly green Jansport backpack with writing all over it. I want to bleach it and dye it a different color, but after about 3 bleach washes, the only thing that happened, was some of the writing disappeared, other then that, nothing.

Do any of you know any REALLY REALLY strong bleaches, or what else I could do? I mean, seriously it's so gross, and I NEED this backpack, I can't just throw it out or give it away.

Heya everyone,

I swiped these buttons off of an old jacket because they just looked so cool. I knew I had to do SOMETHING with them, the problem is, I dunno what. I was thinking about making a bracelet, but they're so...not flat it'd just be weird. Any suggestions?

** You can ignore the prices if it is "illegal" in this community, I am lazy so I copied and pasted from my journal**

Since being a fag hag hasn't worked out so good for me, I've decided to pursue a more lucrative career in the fag bag industry. And by "industry," I mean shady back alley business operating from my meth lab.

Here's the skinny on the PHAT bags (ohhhh, my jokes slay me!)

-I make them.

-They are sorta ugly.

-And coincidentally, they are for sale.

-You can buy all of them for 10 bones and under. You can't even get good weed for that price! It's a steal ladies and gentlefags!

This shit’s Mafioso, playa. You, too, can be a mafia princess/thug/Center City Rapist with this “BANGin” pink hold-up number I like to call, “The BANGin Pink Hold-Up Number!” It’ll cost ya 6 bones though, don’t trip. (6 bones in the language of the lay = $6.00.)

And to think...you thought you would never be able to get in my panties. Here’s your chance...strike while the iron is hot, or before my dick goes limp. A night in Nicole’s draws will only cost you 10 beaners!! 10 fucking greenbacks to “fill up” my draws. Do it. Either that or pay me never to illustrate that gruesome image again. ($10.00)

I've been looking at the faq and seen that silk screening is a good alternatives to iron on transfers. Could someone tell me exactly what silk screening is? I looked but my question wasn't answered, also what are the advantages of this over iron-ons?

Thanks to everyone for the information on rosewater. I made some spritzing water, but then got sidetracked. I will try recipes tommorrrow. I have an 18mth old, so getting sidetracked is way to easy. Anyway, My dad gave me all of these great fabric samples. He is a interior designer and when fabrics get discontinued I get the great samples. Some of this stuff runs $200+ a yard, so I don't want to use it as trial project fabric ( I will make trial runs in muslin and then do it with the good stuff. Also anything lined, my liner is usally my trial run). So far I made a great purse that is burgundy velvet with little gold metallic bumblebees woven in it and I lined it with this muted gold fabric. I also made a few rice buddy things for my dad, to show appreciation. So I need help. I have like 150 sample pieces that I was scared to use and now I realize something has to be done because they are taking over the fabric shelf. The pieces are about 16inx11in, but the top two inches have gromets in either corner. I am open to any suggestions either with leaving the gromets in or cutting the pieces down a few inches. Most of the fabric is heavier (upholstery weight). All designs are woven in, not printed, so the stuff is pretty sturdy.
