sewing machines

I sew occasionally, no huge projects, but i want to get more into sewing. My mom has a sewing machine, but my grandmother is using it right now, and i figured it would be prime time for me to buy my own. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with the brand name Janome. The one i'm looking at is on sale for $189.99, which i figure is low to mid range (?). I really have no clue on the pricing. The only reason this is looking like a good deal to me, is because i can use a store charge card, and not have to pay the $200 flat out, plus there is free shipping currently. I guess i'm just wondering if it's a widely known brand, and if anyone has used their machines?

Hello everyone! A couple weeks ago, I bought these souvenir handkercheifs from a local thrift shop. I loooooooove the graphics on them. They appear to be vintage as the fabric is worn down a bit in some places, but are in great shape and the colors look fantastic. I also think they may be real silk.

I think that I'm going to sell these on my website, since I don't trust my cat/husband/friends around them. They're too nice for my house!!!

so i move into my dorm in less than 4 weeks - i'm trying to get organized and packed up, but i keep getting distracted. my newest side project is to make my new roommate a "thanks for living with me" gift. (i'm an RA next year and we don't get our own rooms anymore..so she's gonna have to put up with a lot of crap and people coming in and out all the time).

any ideas?

ideas so far:

a cute little pillow for her bed
homemade stuffed animal
a little food package (popcorn, koolaid mix, chips, etc)

...i want something cool and creative though. any thoughts?

I have a 42 inch by 65 inch Star Wars curtain that I have no idea what to do with. I've reviewed a lot of standard options such as pillow cases and pillow case skirts that could come from the pillow case if I decided that I don't like it. But I don't really need another pillow case and I don't like the way this fabric would look as a skirt (too busy! not my style.)

Any Suggestions on what I could do with this prize?
