I was traveling for business, and during my flight, my pressed powder blush cracked and broke into a bunch of little pieces. I usually throw it away when that happens since I can no longer get even coverage with it, but this time I decided to try an idea I read about a long time ago. I put the pieces into a small bowl and then pulverized them with a spoon. I mixed in some rubbing alcohol until I had a smooth paste (a bit thicker than pancake batter, but thinner than muffin batter). Then I cleaned out an old, mostly-empty, plastic eye shadow container that's been lurking in my makeup drawer for a while now, scooped the paste into it, patted it smooth and let it dry.

After a few days, the alcohol had all dried and the powder looked just as it had when I bought it -- pressed into a nice little cake. It works just great. Now I have to figure out what to do with the compact that the blush came in. I'm thinking of making a purse pomander!

ive had a bedazzler around for a few years and ive run out of ideas for cute things to do with it. im tired of the diamond studded tshirt or tank top routine.

any ideas?

That's Happy Bunny.

I <3 him.

He looks really simple and cute and he says the darnest things...

Does anyone know of a program or website that could turn pictures of Happy Bunny into cross-stitch charts?

He looks like he'd be easy to sew.

I know they sell software for this, but if anyone knows a site that could do it free that would rock. (If not, the names of these programs would rock so I can look them up on E-Bay).

Thanks!

I've read everything about book hollowing in the memories, but I still have a few questions.

1-I tried watering down elmer's glue and using that on the pages, but they just got really crinkly and made the book shut funny. Am I doing something wrong with the glue?

2-Do you have to glue every page? I tried painting glue onto the outside edges, but that was a failure and when I coated a good bit of the individual pages there was major crinkling.

3-Can someone explain how to bind the pages with screws?

Any other tips you can give would just rock my world. I want to make this as a gift so I'm doing a few practice runs first. I'd like to test out as many different ideas as possible to see which works the best.

Okay.. real quick. Does anyone have any ideas on hos to display concert tickets. I use to have a bunch but when I moved I lost them, and now I am starting to get back into seeing a bunch. Just thought I might ask!! I've heard of taking an old picture frame and decorate the around the glass where the wood or metal would be and take out the back of it and put two pieces of glass in it so you cn see thru it. Any more ides out there?? Thx :) Sorry for the cross posting!!

another question for all my craftee gurus.
my bedroom used to be decorated in all leopard print ages ago when i lived at home. i've since redone it all into mostly white with bits of blues and greens. think sea glass. but i have a really nice lamp with a leopard shade. my Q is how does one go about recovering a lamp shade? i think it has a sort of wire frame but i'm not sure. also i don't have a sewing machine. any ideas? or should i just go buy another one?

Hey I am trying to make some marble magnets with pictures of my kidlet but I can only find marbles with this icky pearl finish. Does anyone know where I can just find plain ol clear glass marbles sans the finish?
[identity profile] dnbmegan.livejournal.com
does anyone have any tips/patterns on making a yoga mat? i'm a college student and too poor right now to buy one of my own. i'd also like to make a little bag to carry it in. something simple but practical. thanks everyone!

Random question: does anybody have any ideas what to do with old bras? I mean, I really would hate to throw out ones that are still in good quality cause I paid a significant amount of money for them and I was wondering if there was something crafty to do with them.

I'm quite interested to hear any suggestions.

Hey ladies, I want to make a fabric flower for a purse I'm making for my birthday tomorrow. Either pin on or sew on is fine. Can anyone help? I found directions for a ribbon rose, but I don't have any appropriate black ribbon and I want to avoid going out to the store today!

old sweatshirt+hot pink zippers=cool new skirt
i think i want to put some hot pink ribbon along the bottom, but that will involve going to the store, so i'm not sure. it still seems a little boring right now though.

Heya - Do any of you have a craft that you're selling out there in retail stores on a pretty reasonable level? If so, have you worked with any manufacturers to get POS materials like display boxes or stands? I'm having some trouble finding a manufacturer that won't require me to order HUGE amounts to get a reasonable price... if I only have 100 vendors, I don't need 2500 display boxes, y'know? Anyone find a good middle ground?
[identity profile] fatfeistyfemme.livejournal.com
I'm looking for more vendors - especially those who take risks. Vendors that have more unique stuff or who have an adult area, or like, queer or feminist bookstores? It's hard to find those smaller stores, the ones w/o websites or an advertising budget, and they're the ones that would actually benefit the most from selling my lip balms ( http://www.pussypuckerpots.com ) - 'cuz they tend to have a more progressive clientele. Anyway - I'd really really really really appreciate it if any of you who can think of a store in your local area who might be a good match for my balms, if you'd pass along the name of the store and the address if you have it? If they buy, I'll send you a free pussy pucker pack :D

cd coaster

[identity profile] silvertigre.livejournal.com
I was using a cd I didn't want as a coaster but it didn't work very well because the water was very cold and it made my dresser a little wet, esp. w/the hole in the middle of the cd. I'm wondering what I can glue onto the bottom of the cd to make it a better coaster.

other than that, this is my first post here and I would love to show y'all the stuff I've made (a couple bracelets, mostly), but I don't have a dig camera or web cam. I also have some t-shirt reconstructions I wanted to post on t-shirt surgery, so maybe I'll take pictures of everything around christmastime (I'll have some spare time away from college & my dad has a dig cam).
[identity profile] wyldviolet.livejournal.com
Is there a crocheting community on LJ? I've looked around and I've looked in the craftgrrl FAQ but I didn't see one mentioned.

Thanks for any help!

More stuff I've made recently~ I won't have much time for sewing and crafting probably because I'll be moving back to college.

hey guys,

i've never actually posted here as my digital camera broke several weeks prior to me joining this community. no online photo ability = no posts about my work.

but in any case, after becoming quite inspired during several periods of insomnia, i am considering going into the crafting business. nothing major, just selling bags/skirts/jewelry online.

how would you suggest i begin this? obviously i need a website, which is no problem since my bf and i actually run a web design company. (if any of you lovely ladies/gents are looking to move online yourselves, check out juicebox design for our ridiculously low promotional rates)
i'm curious though how you go about marketing, what types of venues you frequent... basically, for those of you who have some knowledge and/or experience in the business, how do you turn creativity into profit? any advice would be most appreciated.

thanks!

I have to do a school project and it is due in 2 weeks.
We have to make something from the anglo-saxon time period...any ideas that are cheap? Thank you! Meli

ok i got the go ahead from kimmer to make the zine. send me everything you can think of and i'll fish through the FAQ. i need crafty stuff involving the fall season which includes halloween and thanksgiving. i'd also like recycled crafts, DIY tips for things around the house, articles about how you got into crafting, any sort of crafting news, etc. basically anything you can think of. if you need to snail mail me something comment here and we'll talk farther on aim or through email. process pictures of projects are much appreciated even if they're drawings.

Thanks everybody!

p.s. scarf patterns would be awesome =)

After seeing some really cute Shrinky Dink projects, I decided I had to get some. The first idea that came to me was that I wanted to make something for my friend that is starting college on Monday. And getting mail at school is great. Here's the first piece.

That's our high school's logo.

Yes, our high school mascot was a dot. See for yourself. Poca High School

I haven't decided if I want to make her a necklace or charm bracelet. I'm trying to think what I could do for the other charms. Maybe some solid colors (red, gray, white) or some with a solid background and different color dots. Any ideas? Thanks!
[identity profile] headhasnoroom.livejournal.com
where do you get shrinky dink stuff. last time i had some i was a kid and the things were already printed...you just cut them out and shrunk em in the oven...
seems like several folks are making there own and i want to hop on the band wangon...
share your shrinky dink info with me?

sorry if this bugs
[identity profile] cordelia-sue.livejournal.com
Okay, I caught the shrinky dink fever too. You guys are totally inspiring me, but right now inspiration from [livejournal.com profile] saucydwellings has monopolized most of my energy and finances, so I'm stuck with shrinky dinks for the time being. I'm just making fridge magnets for now, though I have a few really fun ideas.

For some reason, art deco and shrinky dinks go hand in hand in my twisted little mind )

I do have a question for those more experienced in the shrinky arts... I've seen some examples of bracelets and such made from dinks, and I'm wondering, if you color them with colored pencil, do you seal the dink? If so, what do you use?

Sorry for a kinda' lame first offering. I had fun, though, and I guess that's what counts. ;)

Hey, I made my first duct tape wallet. I tore up a page out of a thesaurus and taped it on. I like it a lot, and all thanks to this community for the idea. <33
