so i was going to make those marble magnets for 3 of my friends who just moved into this house as a little house warming present, but today when i was there THEY ALREADY HAD SOME!! talk about disappointing...

but they looked kind of "mass produced" and unoriginal so i might still make some cooler ones....

well ive been keeping my gauged earrings and plugs and such in my cat's prescription bottle. but then i was looking at my little earring holder with those tiny little holes in it so you can display your little earrings. but i want to display my BIG earrings.

any ideas for a way to display plugs/gauged earrings similar to those mesh earring holders?

Wow. I just have to say thank you. I posted a message yesterday asking if anyone had ideas for stores that might be likely to carry my kinda naughty feminist line of vegan lip balm, and I got like - 30 responses immediately, and they're still coming in! I just wanted to say thank you because I'm TOTALLY OVERWHELMED by the amount of support I've gotten here. You all are fantastic! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

I have a question for you bag and purse makers out there—

How do you sew in your linings?

I've been experimenting with a few different ways but I'm not satisfied with anything that I'm doing. Usually, I make the shell for the bag and then the lining. Once the outter shell is complete, I slip in the lining and attempt to sew it in at the top and then tacking it down at the bottom corners so it doesn't come out. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't because my measurements are always a little bit off.

Is there an easier way?

Thanks in advance!

I found this gold colored sheet metal in our craft cupboard. My mom said she bought it probably eight years ago and can't remember what she was going to do with it. So, what do you do with it?

I was in a store today that had some really cool decorative paper boxes... they were all handmade. I've looked in the FAQ and can't find instructions for anything like this. Any suggestions???

[livejournal.com profile] eophenia mentioned that she liked my bedspread on my first post and I told her that I had the warm colors version at school and that I would have take pictures. Well, after doing homework for two hours on a Saturday I decided to take a break and show all the color coordinated goodness that is my room.

mmm.... warm )

stiffness

other than fusible...what else can you use to make a bag stiff...
im so clueless when it comes to this stuff
[identity profile] neverlukewarm.livejournal.com
thanks for all replying :) i thought i'd start a new thread about how i made it cause the old one is probably way down. these instructions are really basic. sorry but i had a load of help from my mum who knows more about these things than me :)

anyway i measured how long i wanted the skirt and also how big i wanted the waist band to be. then using pi and various maths skills i thought i had forgotton i cut a big circle out.

then i measured round my waist and made panels for the waistband which kind of dips down.

i folded the circle into quarters and folded the waistband panels to match to see what shape i would have to cut into the circle. then because i wanted to put a zip down the side i had to cut the circle in half.

then came all the pinning which takes a while when you have a whole circle to do! first i sewed up the side with no zip, then the one with the zip, attaching the waistband at the top. then i put the backing onto the waistband. then i sewed the hem around the bottom.

i got the material from ikea. it was 50p a metre! cause it was on special offer but fabric is really cheap there. i now have quite a lot of green left, and 2 metres of red with white dots :)

Stenciling

Hi girls!
For those who are new to stenciling..what would be the best way to cut the stencils out of the plastic sheets you get from Michaels? I introduced my cousin to stenciling onto shirts and stuff, and I havent got the chance to experiment with it yet. He bought the plastic sheets from Michaels and tried using an exacto (sp?) knife to cut the shapes out. He said it was a bit complicated to get the shapes cut exactly the way he wanted using a knife. Would you suggest using a different type of tool, or using a different type of stencil (transparency sheets, cardboard..??)

i wanted something with substantial pages for my new traveling journl. i found a drawing pad at michael's on super cheap sale and grabbed it. after the first person got the journal the cover started coming off because it was kinda thin so this is what i did...
you will need:
*metal ringed drawing book [the kind that has the metal wire wrapped around in a circular way going through lots of holes on the pages/covers
*pencil
*x-acto
*cereal/cracker/etc box

1. carefully pull the wire apart so that you can take out all the pages and covers...don't pull apart more than half an inch so that it will be easier to push back together.
2. hrow away the original front cover, put the pages aside and keep the [thick] back cover in front of you.
3. carefull pull the box apart so that it all lies flat.
4. place the back cover ontop of the brown/boring side of the box and trace inside the holes of the cover with the pencil.
5. cut all of the holes out with the x-acto
6. put the book back together
YAY new book cover!!! the first one i did the front cover/cereal box was upside down x.x just pay close attention when you start tracing the holes hehe.

HELP! My fairly new neighbors anniversary is today and I'd like to make them something really special. They've treated me with such kindness ever since they've moved in, always including and inviting me to go places with them and buying me things. What would be a quick but meaningful gift to give them? (Besides giving a card, that would be my last resort)
[identity profile] lucky-blonde.livejournal.com
hurray! I finally did something crafty after wanting to do so for so long. I was having a craftyness block. Anyways I freehand drew the picture and embrodered this tiki face on one of my mom's old waitressing aprons. It took me a couple hours to do the whole thing.

[identity profile] toothsome.livejournal.com
does anyone know of an online source for sewing patterns that takes money orders? all of the sites of looked at only take credit card orders, but alas, I don't have one.

i work for a school district and was put in charge of decorating the showcase. i based it on the f.i.s.h. philosophy that the schools goes by. its hard to explain, but it's basically some thing to make your work a better place to be. anyway, here is how it turned out. not bad for a few hours work and a trip to the craft store. sorry the pictures are so huge, but it was the best way to see details.

my digi cam is still not working so I had to take these pictures with my izone pocket cam :D they're really small and bad detail, so i'm sorry.

these are two books that I made. one is a hollowed book [i made 3 weeks ago] and the other is my first try at book-binding a sketch book [i made yesterday]. i like how they came out. constructive criticism please! ^-^

I decided to put my music CDs into a binder, and now I have two grocery bags full of empty jewel boxes. Any ideas for projects to do with them? (Other than using them to hold home-made CDs, that is.)
