my boyfriend is dressing up as the grim reaper for my friends birthday party, which happens to be on Halloween. we'll [i'll] be making the costume with stuff from charity shops and stuff we already have here. i know it's a pretty straightforward costume to make...but we want it to be as realistic as possible. in particular i want to know how to make a scythe...
was just wondering if any of you have dressed up as a grim reaper or know anyone who has. if so, any tips, advice, photos or anything?
thanks!

X-Posted to [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl, [livejournal.com profile] t_shirt_surgery, [livejournal.com profile] institches, and [livejournal.com profile] winglessangl So i apologize if you see this more than once =)

I finally found a way to use up a pair of weird "granny panty" style undies i had as well as make this pair of pants i got even better. See, i'm a tall chick, i got long legs and a 35" inseam....so it's hard to find pants long enough, but i got these green cargo pants from TJ Maxx jus cuz they ruled, i knew i would cut them into shortpants. So i buy them, get them home and URG! They are way too low on me...like, we're talking a$$-crack city here. So i think and think and think about how i can solve my dillema. Then, my mom bought me this packet of Hanes Sport High-Cut undies, and they were like HUGE grannie panties, which i don't wear, ever. So the lightbulb over my head went on. "I could sew them into the pants, so they stick out above the waistline of the pants, thus making them suitable for public wear!" Oh brilliant ideas i love thee!

So, i pinned em in place, and sewed em in so it gives that "showing undies" look, and i drew black stars on the elastic of the undies with a sharpie.

Limmie know what you guys think of em (how they look an all that, or if you even think that it's a neat idea or not, i dun care, cuz i love em anyways!)

clicky for pics )

Hi! I have a question. I saw someone's duct tape purse and thought it was so cool I would try to make my own. So I went to home depot and they only had black, white, and silver. Where can I find colored duct tape?

I made a halter top out of an old choir shirt last night, but there's one teeny problem....the logo's still there.

The shirt is made of like the thick baby-T material, if that makes sense, and the logo is put on there with like...paint type stuff O_o even though they were made professionally...it's very small, about 3 inches x 2 inches and over my left boob....I'd like to get the logo OFF, it's very very ugly (solid turquiose treble clef surrounded in yellow that's supposed to look like flames but miserably fails...) and I'd like to do some stenciling on there, maybe. The shirt is black. I was thinking maybe just take out the seams, and sew the shirt so the seam is on the inside when it's inside out....if that makes sense =P

my mom has finally found a place to live. currently, she is living with her parents (my grandparents) and is ready to get out. she had to leave her old place because of something with the landlord, he got fired or something.

but my point is, i want to make her something for when she moves in. it's a small place with 2 bedrooms, but one is going to be used for storage. so i don't want to give her something that would take up a lot of space. sewing something is out of the question because i can't sew, and i'd like something that wouldn't cost a whole lot - i would prefer something that i could whip up from the things i have laying around the house. but of course, what i have laying around the house might not be the same things you have laying around your house. but any ideas would be welcome.

i'm in the process of making seat cushions for my outdoor furniture and cannot decide what kind of closure to use on the cushions. my original plan was to just sew them closed, but i've decided that i will want to wash them once in a while so i should go for a closure in which the cushion is easily removable. i've considered using velcro and buttons, but neither really does it for me. any other ideas?? or perhaps someone can recommend a site on the topic?

thanks!!

Hey all,
I just joined this community and I have 2 quick questions. I want to make some record bowl plant holders, but what do you use for a base to catch the water and from seeping through the the hole? Or is the hole so small it does not really matter?
This is totally unrelated to crafting, but I have some pics I wanted to post, so what are some free, reliable, good picture hosting sites?
Thanks!

Hey everyone,
This is my first post to this community, but I've been lurking and reading posts for quite some time now. I do crafty things a lot, but I'm so proud of myself for finally figuring out and successfully screen printing, that I had to share. I bought myself a speedball kit on sale (fyi, for those of you interested in this kit- it's a good kit, but the instructions leave a lot to be desired). I made a simple design in photoshop, printed it out on transparency paper, and used the photo emulsion technique explained here. I printed it on a cheap, boy's undershirt so I wouldn't be too upset if I messed up. It was easy, except that I was working on my parents' dining room table and had to be especially paranoid about making a mess. I had a few problems, but nothing that I couldn't fix up. In general, I think it turned out pretty good for my first try.
Here it is.

Ive never posted here... but I have lurked and read posts for about a month..

Anyway... Im trying to think of ideas to decorate my bedroom (when I move)...

I want it to be mainly black and white.. with pink or purple accents.. probably pink..

I am thinking of making a bedframe (to put around my bed.. not hold it) of PVC Piping..

maybe a broken CD disco ball thing... or like one on each side of the bed...

Also does anyone know where I could get christmas lights in just pink or just purple...

Anyway.. this community is making me feel really crafty... Ive been sewing alot... decorating my binders and whatnot.. and just thinking much craftier than before...
