Rather than go with the regular not so cheap grad invitations, I wanted to see if I could get some ideas from you guys as how to proceed with elegant and not cheap looking ones. Any suggestions?! :)

Since I am using a free service, I know this will run out quick...but I will put the picture behind a cut anyways.

Behind the cut is the picture of my blanket I am making for my nephew. Aren't you all sick of it yet? Anyways, it is a hooded baby blanket. The stripes are done in white and off white.
Now I wanted to do the hood and the border a seperate color than the rest of the blanket...I just do not know what color. I was thinking something varigated...but a light color. Not too light though because it is for a boy.
My question is, should I go with a varigated color? or should I stick to a solid color? And if so, what color should I pick? I want something that does not scream out at me-meaning being super bright-but I want something that looks good with it.
Anyone have any suggestions???

I have been told that the best kind of printer to be used for printing out your button designs.. is a laser printer. is the quality better? any ideas on what a good brand is... cuz i've only owned inkjet printers. does anyone have anything good to say about printing out your button designs with an inkjet? any tips? i use Paint Shop Pro 7 for all my graphic editing/creating needs... but any tips would be great. =)

Halloween is almost here!!! yay! My friends and I are begining to work on our costumes. One of us is going to try and make a "Treant" (the Dungeon and Dragons verson of a Tree-Ent from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings). We are "stumped" (a ha ha ha....) as to the best way to make the bark and leaves look nice.
For leaves I was thinking the fake "silk" leaves, perhaps glued over a green backgound. But, we are trying to think of anything that would look realistic for the bark, other than hot glueing actual bark from a tree (dead of course!) to fabric.

Ideas Anyone? or links to pictures of other coustumes of this type?

Hello all, I've been lurking for a while and figured I should post something. I don't know if creative cakes count as crafty, but I like this one and wanted to share. I baked it for a cake decorating contest at a Studebaker meet. It is shaped like my boyfriend's truck.

Okay, back to lurking now...

Ok, i searched the memories and people have asked this before but people are always mixed on it so.....

Is it worth getting a hand held sewing machine? An 'easy sew', to be exact. I don't do that much stuff, just for hemming and making bags. It's just they have them cheap on the internet and i was considering getting one.... opinions?

Oh and does anyone know any tutorials/instructions for making a basic bag?

This is basically a crosspost from my own journal, because I got some positive feedback from the nice people here last time I posted some of my books.

Two quick questions:

Can one buy single sheets for iron on transfers?

Also, what kind should I buy for white shirts/black shirts? How much does it usually cost (in packs not singles)?

Oh, and what kind of spray paint should I use to stencil on tshirts?

Since winter is approaching there is nothing more cozy than a roaring fire. Here is a crafty idea that makes a great gift for anyone who keeps a fireplace.

You can dip pinecones in cinnamon melted wax and a little sawdust with a few choice chemicals and they will smell fantastic and they will emit different color flames!

Iodized Salt-Burns Yellow
No-Salt Substitute- Burns Purple
Borax- Burns Green

Just dip your pinecones in the melted wax and before it cools roll it in the cinnamon, sawdust and the choice chemical and then let it dry.

In the spirit of Halloween. Here is a recipie to make HOMEMADE SLIME!

Transform ordinary ingredients into a ghoulish concoction.

WHAT YOU NEED
• Two mixing bowls
• Measuring cups and spoons
• Glue
• Borax
• Green food coloring
• Water
Time needed: Under 1 Hour

Step 1:
Mix together 3/4 cup warm water, 1 cup glue and several drops of green food coloring in the first bowl.
Step 2:
In the second bowl, mix together 4 teaspoons borax and 1 1/3 cups warm water.
Step 3:
Pour the contents of the first bowl into the second, but don't stir. Let it sit for 1 minute, then lift the now-congealed slime out of the bowl.
Step 4:
Divide slime so that each child has a piece to play with. The glue in slime can make it stick to certain fabrics. To minimize accidents, give each little monster a zip-top bag to store it in.

Tips:
SAFETY NOTE: Since borax is toxic in large doses, be sure to keep the slime away from kids younger than age three.

Another fun tip. Did you know you could use packets of kool-aid as cheap watercolors?

i'm currently working on a few crafty things, but i thought i would make my introductory post with something i made last year for my husband's valentine's day present. a friend inspired me with a series of poems she had written while she and her boyfriend were apart - a total of 52 days, one day for each card in a deck of cards. i took that idea and used it to count down from christmas eve until february 13. i wrote a haiku for each card, each day. Oh fleep.

I know I saw them here somewhere...
Does anyone know where I can find instructions for making a book clutch bag, from an old book?

I searched the Memories with no luck, however I do think I will be recovering my guitar strap now...

A very quick question about book hallowing;

I've read in the FAQ that you should dilute the glue a bit...how much? Does someone out there know how many parts I have to mix of glue and water? I'm hollowing a book for my boyfriend's gift [aww, one year anniversary], as the box. I just want to make sure I do it correctly. As well, is it better/easier to use a hard cover or soft cover book?

Muchly appreciated.
