Made myself some new clothes! (From patterns of course, I'm too scared to cut stuff up). The first one is Butterick 3885, the second is New Look 6149.

See the tops )

I'm thinking of making THESE for my mom for x-mas. The problem is, she doesn't like to wear slippers that don't have the non-skid stuff on the bottom, know what i mean. at 3:30am the actual name of the stuff escapes me but it's so you don't slip and fall in your slippers.

does anyone know where i could buy something like that?
i wouldn't even know where to look because i've never made slippers before. depending on how fast i can churn them out, EVERYONE might be getting slippers this year! hahaha

thanks in advance

Hey crafters! I've long been on the list and admired all the talent that is out there ... I have a favor to ask. I am a part of WXDU a college radio station in Durham NC. In November we are having an auction to benefit the station ... would any of you guys want to donate anything towards it? Let me know, I am pretty sure it will be tax deductible ...

Thanks!

Ok a little background first I have an eleven year old cousin who loves to steal and wear my clothing especially my shoes. Well what happened is she stole my shoes and in the process of going after her I slipped and broke my foot. She thinks everything that happened is all her fault I tried telling her it isn't, but I'd like to make a little something for her. She likes books, soccer, cheerleading, basketball, and is starting to get into beauty products. Does anyone have ideas of what I could do?

We have a Halloween party (finally!) to go to and I have thought of the perfect costumes for the guy and myself. He will be Mr Furious and I will be the Bowler. That is if I can come up with a way to make the lucite bowling ball with the skull inside. Any ideas oh craft goddesses/gods? I would *really* love to do this... any help at all will be mucho appreciated.

:)

*fingers crossed* i will be exhibiting at the kentucky guild fall arts and crafts fair next weekend in berea, kentucky, october 10-12. if anyone is in the area, stop by! come by my booth and mention craftgrrl and i'll give you 1/2 off my wares! (i make recycled copper jewelry.) the fair has an interesting history. it's been taking place for a long long time. i wasn't able to find much history online, but berea college has a very long connection to crafts. there is even a kentucky artisan center in berea which is open year round. wish me luck!

...and I am so sorry for the bad pun in that title.

*but*, I've totally figured out my Christmas presents for my entire HUGE extended family, and I thought I'd share in case any of y'all have too many family members and not enough $ this holiday season.

This Christmas, all my gifts will be in a jar!

I got about 100 mason jars (because I have about 20 families to make gifts for) and I'm doing five jars per family.

1) Hot coccoa mix (go to Sam's or CostCo, buy some of those HUGE Swiss Miss Coccoa cans, and scoop it into jars)

2) Christmas Cookies (use yr fav. recipe, but don't make cookies that won't keep or are really delicate and won't pack, don't pack cookies until they're completely cooled, put waxed paper between each cookie)

3) Christmas cookie mix (mix all the dry ingredients of yr fav. cookie and attach a card to the outside of the jar telling folks what wet ingredients they need and baking times and temps)

4) Mini soaps (packed into the jar with some colorful tissue)

5) A mini-jar-candle (take mini mason jars, buy the big, huge white wax blocks and a huge pack of wicks, melt, dye, add glitter, etc., pour over wicks into jars, let dry, cut wicks to size)

I'm packing the 5 jars in hand-made Christmas tote bags (made from some of the cute n' cheap Christmas fabric that is coming out of the walls of every fabric store on the planet) and covering the jar-tops so that they match the bags. Each family gets 1 bag. I should be able to do about 20 families for about $200. It has something for everyone. A bag that Mom can use during the holiday season. Cookies for the kids. Candles for the teens. Cookie and coccoa mix for the entire family, etc.

I'm putting a hand-made Christmas card in each one.

Also, with some easy modifications (cookies in different shapes and colors, the use of fabric for a holiday other than Christmas) this can easily be made into a gift for any other seasonal holiday :)

:D

I was out driving yesterday and noticed this massive sign on the side of the highway that said MASSIVE FABRIC SALE 4th and 5th of October. It also advertised remnants and trims and stuff so I will be there with bells on and thought I'd post the details here too in case anyone wanted to check it out. I'll be on the lookout for more stripes - I am finding heaps of chunky striped fabric in thrift stores atm - leftover from the 80s!
I found some more details about it on some local radio station website:

Saturday, 4 October 2003 - Sunday, 5 October 2003

9:00am - 3:00pm

504 Neerim Rd, Murrumbeena

There'll be fabric, leather bags, baby bicycle seats, cosmetics and thousands of other remnants at give away prices. It's to raise money for a wheelchair for a local disabled 14 year-old girl.

Happy digging!

hey everyone! i haven't posted here in a while but i thought i'd share my recently knit baby blanket for my new niece. when i started it i didn't know if the baby would be a boy or a girl but green is a pretty neutral color. it was knit with 'Katia' yarn in a regular stockinette stitch on size 10 needles.

I just got the coolest catalog - it's an auction catalog, and it has all these tiny images of great illustations, classic actors, comic book characters, etc. I'm trying to think of things to do with them OTHER THAN marble magnets, bottlecap jewelry, and decoupaging them to picture frames (granted, I still intend to do all of those, but I have literally hundreds of images I like). Any ideas?
[identity profile] suffocateinabag.livejournal.com
okay. real quick!
i need an answer, fast.
I jsut did a stencil, and it ended up crooked.
If i toss it in the wash, will the fabric paint come off?
this is just a stab in the dark, because it was a much-loved hoodie.
I did the word GEEK on the front, but the two (GE) and the other two (EK) aren't even on both sides.. HELP!!!!!

I did a bug swap
They're oil paints and clay, they stick to your window like a cling and look like stained glass...fully translucent..

hey all you amazing craftees
i did some major office cleaning today and now have in my possession a dozen or so tubes that once held vinyl. think toilet paper rolls but much larger. they range from fifteen inches to two feet long and have a two inch inside diameter. i know there has to be some awesome craft project hiding in these babies. so what do y'all think i can do with them?
all i can think of is to stuff them with little goodies and use them as gift boxes.
thanks in advance
cross posted all over, sorry.......

hello, craftgrrls! my name's lucie. i was a member when i had my old livejournal, [livejournal.com profile] cawfee, but i deleted that. this journal is strictly for communities (mainly crafting) and the like due to the fact that livejournal was taking over my social life before. you all know. you're probably all victims. not that that's a bad thing, but it wasn't working out for me. :P.

question: i just picked up knitting (i used to knit when i was little, but i dropped it for a few years. hehe.) and i have no idea how to purl. i looked at all the online sites, blah blah blah. does anyone have any hints or books that explain it really easily? or am i just doomed? thanks.

just so this isn't a text-only post, here's a picture of the marble magnets i made for my beloved the other day:

we both like hello kitty&ponacho. teehee. arn't marble magnets a blast?

I'm not really a crafty person (I have the artistic talent of a stick), but I thought I'd mention a simple bag that I made years ago.

I had a pair of army pants, and I converted them into shorts by just cutting the legs off from the knee down. With the knee-down segments of material, I turned them inside out, sewed along the roughly cut edge (I recommend a sewing machine, although I did it by hand and it's lasted since '97), and then flip it normal way out again. Instant bag that matches your pants, and uses up those bits that would have otherwise stayed in my scraps box :)

I also cut one of the button hole sewn bits (can't think of how to word it, but they're the button down belt loops) and sewed that on the front of the bag, cut a hole in the back and sewed one of the buttons from my pants onto there. Because I didn't have any suitable strap material, I took the drawstring from a pair of old shorts and used that :)

I've recently bought some strong belts for cheap in bright colours, and I'm going to use them as straps for future bags.

I got the "parfait" color to try to crochet a scarf with, but I'm having a little trouble. Any tips for working with it?

Stenciling

Oct. 3rd, 2003 06:25 pm
[identity profile] wannaseestars.livejournal.com
I looked up in the Stenciling section of the FAQ and didnt find anything on these topics..

Does any one have any tips for making your own stnecils?

Would Spray Paint work alright for painting stencils onto a t-shirt? My friend made a shirt by using letter stencils with blue spray paint onto a gray shirt, and it came out good. The following weekend, I tried using a more detailed image as a stencil, using white spray paint onto a green shirt and it came out sucky. Im guessing this probably happened because of the light paint onto a darker shirt huh?

I had one other question, but I forgot. So I guess I will just ask you all....

What methods and tools/supplies helped make your stenciling process successful?
[identity profile] eye-booger.livejournal.com
I remember a website that was mostly reconstructed tshirts for sale, along with purses, etc. There was a DIY page, where the owner explained how to turn a pillow case into a shirt. I cant find the URL or website name, and I was wondering if anyone else knew of it?

bear hat

[identity profile] warheart.livejournal.com
i know many of you have made bear and cat ears hats. i've made a cat ears hat myself (see my icon). i haven't made a bear ears hat and i was wondering how you make the bear ears? also what pattern for the hat do you use? the one i used kind of sucked so if anyone has a good pattern that they've used please share :)
oh yeah and i'm talking about crocheting so if you have instructions on knitting bear ears i will not be able to use them.

I finished my first t-shirt reconstruction last night. I cut it up and resewed a huge plain white shirt a few weeks ago, and finally got around to finishing the design and painting it on.

Take a look? )

Okay, so I used the ohmystars cross-and-tie at the neck thing (forget what's it's called) and then I put the same ribbon on the bottom and cut a section out of the back and cut some holes and put some ribbon in....yay! It started out as a black choir shirt, then I turned it inside out (believe me, tihs was the ugliest thing you've ever seen *dies*), resewed the sides so it didn't look inside out, then cut it up and sewed on the ribbon....I really like how this turned out.
