Anyone know of a site that has a basic pattern to make spats? Ya know, those things that go over your shoes, esp. in marching band uniforms. I need a yellow pair for my Halloween costume.

i was on vaca last week and while shopping saw these nifty little bottle caps that had a picture and some glitter inside and were then filled to the brim with what i assume was some kind of resin. it was clear and hard. i'd like to make some of these for xmas gifts with pics of friends, etc inside so my Q is this - does anyone have a brand of resin they like to use? or do you all think there may be a better component to use, i had thought of use E6000 but i don't kow if it'll harden enough, as in stay flexible and be subject to scratching that'd obscure the picture...?
any and all help appreciated.

Thanks for answering my questions about stencil materials. The Contact Paper worked really well!

I stenciled a Punisher skull ) on a plain black hoodie using a mixture of acrylic paint and Elmer's glue (it's worked for me in the past and dosen't crack or fade much after washing). Yeah, much, much cheaper than the sweatshirts at my comic shop.

The photo looks like the stencil edges are a bit soft and blurry, but they're nice and crisp in real life. I also mixed an antique white in my paint to make it fadey and not perfect. I can post the file I used to make the stencil if anyone would like. Obviously you can't make then sell these, cause Punisher belongs to Marvel Comics...but I didn't have to tell you that right?

I've already posted this (if it looks familiar, that's why) but before it was crappy blurry webcam pics and now that I have a digital camera, these are MUCH better pictures....so I hope this re-post is okay, because last time you couldn't even see it.

Have any of you ever made baby clothes using an existing article of clothing as a pattern? I have a pair of pants and a shirt that my little girl has grown out of and are very basic in shape so i figure i can just make copies that are a little bigger. The design of them are perfect for customizing and i have some cute ideas.
My question is: The existing clothes are 0-3 month size and i'd like to make them to fit around 9 month size. Is there a certain percentage that i increase the pattern by?
I've never done this before andthought i could figure it out but am having some dificulty.

As most of you probably know, Mole Day is coming up on Thursday. My Chemistry teacher used to have a little stuffed mole with a lab coat and a pocket protector and thick rimmed glasses. Last year, it was stolen, as a prank. She needs another "Mister Mole", fast.

Does anyone know how I would do this?

Masks

Does anyone know a website or a store where I can purchase blank masquerade type masks? I'm looking specifically for half face masks, butterfly shape, and others, but not full face masks. I'd prefer in rigid plastic. I plan to make masquerade masks out of them, but I'm having trouble locating a store or website where blank masks can be purchased. I googled for a while but got tired of searching through a lot of sites that didn't help me. I've gotten two masks from a local store in Omaha but neither are made of rigid plastic and I don't like the way they aren't holding up.

Or if anyone has any suggestions for making the masks, let me know. I'm looking to make nice ones, not ones out of paper. I'm using paints and fabrics, for example.

I know next to nothing about sewing machines. I can barely sew in a straight line unless I've made a pencil mark. :)

Anyway, I've been wondering for the longest time (and the manual with my machine just explains how to use it.. but eh..) -- what DOES that button hole feature do? My machine does both one-step and four-step or something of that sort. I tried it out to see if maybe watching it in action would help me figure it out. All I know is I put a button in this metal thing and the thing starts sewing back and forth.. and I just get this clump of string. Ha ha. Do I cut that out?

I just don't get it. O_O

Please explain? :)

Thanks..

A local Shoneys (restaraunt, sort of like Denny's, if they don't have them in your area) had a contest to dress the Shoney Bear for Halloween.

Here's my entry: Frida Bearhlo )

That was so much fun to do. I need to make more stuff!!!

Well I just posted about a Halloween costume not 10 minutes ago...

I checked back and read the entry above mine (by anotherxday )
and WHAM! Inspiration hit.
I am sooo excited! And I would like to thank this community for always being complete inspiration to me!

If you wanna know what I am going to be then here:
I am going to be a Disco Queen Bee. I found this outrageous one piece black bellbottom/disco beautiful outfit. And I am going to wear a yellow ribbon around the middle for my stripe (s) and then dress myself up and be a real Byatch all night. No, but def. be a Queen Bee.
SOOOOO excited!

my questions are what iron setting do i use?
and how do i know which sides of the wax paper to iron on and between the leaves?

also, what can i do with my beautiful ironed creations once they are done?!

thanks my lovelies.
