This is my first-ever post to a community. I just had to show off my new hat. The base is "regular" wet-felted, and the mohair is attached by needlefelting. I'm in search of the perfect trim for the edge.

My new fishnets have already started ripping at the, um, crotch area. Is there any way I can reinforce the seam? I was thinking that I could try to crochet a panel into the spot with thin crochet cotton. Has anyone dealt with this before?

Hedwig costume
how can I pull off a Hewig inspired Holloween costume without trying to be Hedwig herself?
I mean, I neither have the build, nor the hair nor the intention to pull it off. Not to mention the fear of the die-hard fans.
Can anyone think of another Hedwigesque character that I can cheat off of?

Ok, so I finally finished (more or less) the totebag I posted about earlier (having problems with the corners and such).

Clicky, clicky )

There seem to be some people looking for LJ invite codes. I looked up some communities that are designed just for that.

[livejournal.com profile] codecentral
[livejournal.com profile] codesharing
[livejournal.com profile] codetrading
[livejournal.com profile] codewhores
[livejournal.com profile] getljcodeshere
[livejournal.com profile] invite_codes
[livejournal.com profile] journal_tradez
[livejournal.com profile] lendacode
[livejournal.com profile] ljcodebank
[livejournal.com profile] the_code_scene

I am going to put this in the faq, under LJ Invite Codes so that people without journals will be able to find it as a resource towards getting a journal.

I hope no one's offended that this isn't craft related, but I just noticed an increase in codes being asked for and thought I should make a faq entry to help other crafty girls (and boys!).

i need to make a scythe, as my boyfriend is dressing as the grim reaper for Halloween. i know how to do the blade, that's easy. but he wants the handle slightly curved. i have two broomstick handles. and you obviously can't bend wood, haha. so i was thinking about making some sort of joint in the broomstick handles, about 2 thirds of the way up or something. he had an idea for the joint, but i figured out an easier way...but...i can't remember what it was now! how stupid :\ i should have drawn it or something...but i didn't...
so please help me!

I have a book project on a book called "The Death You Deserve" by David Bowker. We have to design a book jacket. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

I'm thinking about drawing a knife or a gun on the front cover. Does anyone have any good pictures that I can use to draw from?

I used to work for our local Animal Shelter, and, I still like to do little things, on a voluntary basis, to help out....anyway, around the holidays, they usually set up gift wrapping tables, and, I was thinking of making some ornaments for them to sell this year, and some little gift bags for pets........I checked the faq, but there were only 3 posts for pet-related crafts, so, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of little things I could make, to have sold at the tables?

And, just so this isn't a 'Help Me!' post, I did come up with one idea for little ornaments: I bought a container of little, clear, acorn-shaped ornaments at Wal-Mart and had the intentions on cutting out some tin cat/dog shapes to suspend inside of them, with fishing wire, but, when I tried it I discovered that the opening was WAY too tiny.....and then my eyes happened to fall on one of the fortunes, from a fortune cookie, I'd been hoarding for a pocket shrine project...and, with a bit of trimming, poking..and prodding, I got it to fit inside and readable--So, I'm going to fill a bowl with 'fortune acorns' for sale!...cool thing is, you could make your own fortunes, by hand or on the computer, to print out and put inside and either decorate a tree/wreath, or, use as a package topper!

Thanks, for any suggestions, they will be greatly appreciated! :)

For Halloween I wanted to make angel wings. I bought a bunch of feathers and pantyhose but the wire I got is just not working. What gauge wire should I use? The stuff I got is 18 gauge and it's not nearly thick enough. And no, I don't have any coat hangers I could use, so I have to go to the store. :\

Thanks girls and guys!

The productive result of my afternoon ^_^

I found an old school bag in the wardrobe with the Foo Fighters logo still painted on, with half the glitter worn off. So I got out the sewing kit.

Size-wise, it's a little bit bigger than a credit card. I'm quite proud of it, actually, useless as it is to me.

But, um, about zips..... they're not fun.

is a suggestion i have for vintage fabrics. also, they have a billion ideas for crafting things. [and shopping. but whatever, i'm broke.]

i thought a lot of people here might like the fabric, though.

Has anyone ever sewn one of those cute, little maid vacuum covers? If you have, do you have any suggestions for me, maybe a pattern name and number you used, etc....

On the Internet, people are selling those things for $50 - $60, and I can sew so I figure why not make my own?

My hubby and I just finished our first craft project together. We made our friend's little girl an easel.
You see, it all started when she fell at the playground and broke her leg :( We decided to introduce her to art (what else can an imobile 2 year old do, right) Well it turned out she loves to paint. We have since gotten her paints, brushes, paintcups, and now made her an easel.

today i went to JoAnn's, and found some furry blue stuff. so i purchased a yard, and in just a few hours, i made this:

originally i wanted a hairy pink (which was unavailable), but fuzzy blue was a good one, since the fuzzy leopard print was blurry and unclean. turning the strap right-side-out was a huge pain, but i did it!

My sister died this morning in a car accident. She was 22 going on 23. She was not religious so I am planning a non-church service to be held at night. It will be in a park under the stars. We are thinking candle lights. I need ideas and links on sites that offer quotes so I can print memory cards on card stock. No 'god' stuff please. Also any rituals that would involve stars and suns (pagan or new age) we can do as a family.

For my mother I thought a signature book would be a good idea for the service. We are trying to locate her favorite things such as her song. I am trying to find a place online that sells small pieces of jade I can pass out with the cards. My sister's nick name was jade.

Can anyone please offer me advice. I have never done this before. I am sad and hurt and need to have this planned without asking my mom. She can't handle it now.

Thank you.

Halloween is less then a week away and I am absolutely clueless as to what I'm going to wear.
Halloween is a big event at my school, and I love dressing up and making a scene of myself. I was going to sew an elaborate Swiss Miss costume and hand out chocolates all day but I don't have the time to sew at all.
I need some quick and easy ideas.
I want to be feminine but I don't want any traditional angel, devil, cat costume.
Help me please!

<3Elle

p.s. I have a budget of about 35 dollars maybe a little more if i dig and my only resource is a local Michael's and a mall.

Question here on pictures.
I want to have a name for all my bracelets and selling and junk...I sell on eBay and everyone seems to have a name.
So I also want to have a webpage and a little business like thing going.
I want my dog to be my icon.....But all I want is like an outline of her. I have no idea how to do that.
I want it in black and white...maybe like what the stencils you people make look like.
But I want it to be a picture...
how do I do that?
