I have been watching this community for a while and checking the FAQ's a lot. From the advice from someone sometime ago I went out and bought an "I taught myself to knit" kit and an "I taught myself to crochet" kit. I bought a bunch of yarn and have started my quest into crocheting. So far, so good. But I only have the basic steps down and haven't really made anything yet. If anyone has any good beginner tips/helpful tips/hints/etc, I am all ears! I will start the knitting within the next few weeks. I want to see which one I like better.

Also, the past few days I have spent building, painting, and installing three floating bookshelves and a floating desk in my house. My living room looks fabulous! Once my bedroom is set up, things will be looking good and I may just throw a little get together to finally bring people over.

Anyhow, just a little hello to introduce myself...Tai

Lately I've been so burned out. It seems as if everything I attempt ends up a mess! I went through the memories and tried a few things. (lightbulb vase, patching jeans)... but I just cant think of anything to get me out of this rut. Anyone got any ideas of things I can make to get out of this crafter's block? lol. I have access to most types of crafting materials... and I can crochet :)

i dont know if you guys are interested but i compiled a list of magnetic poetry words they're not formatted, and i stole them off a program called Ipoetry. there's four pages of words [or a whole package of magnet sheets] there when formated using Lucida Console font in 10pt 1.5 spaced.

well its here here if anyone's interested.

Okay, so I saw this project idea here and I had to try them out. I know it's sort of old news to you all, but I haven't crafted much in years. This was lots of fun. :)

Question though... when I went shopping for supplies I didn't know what glue to get, so as I was pondering I saw a copy of the Michael's project idea book. Surprise, surprise, they had marble magnets in there. They recommended decoupaging the picture to the glass, but then using epoxy to attach the picture to the magnet. Well, I bought Modge Podge and used it for both. (I had never used Modge Podge before this.)

Now the marbles are done, but when I dropped one the other day the magnet split from the picture/glass part. I've dropped others since, but they haven't separated. Do you guys think that they are all likely to fall apart eventually (ie, I used the wrong glue and they are doomed), or that the one that fell apart was a fluke?

I've finished my Halloween costume - I admit that I've never watched Sailor Moon, but I agreed to go with a few friends to go as a scout.

just made this, +2 ) hairpiece for miss [livejournal.com profile] corachaos's Demon Queen costume! woohoo!

it's a loose tokoyalon fall on a structured base and clips onto the top of the head. like one of those i-dream-of-jeannie bun covers, but a lot bigger, 100% handmade, a ton cheaper, and hopefully, scarier.
with this will go a humongous set of copper-red-back ram's horns i'm making out of papier-maché on a tweensy headband. the horns/claws/crown are sculpey.

what do you think?

*bounce* ^_^

yay halloween!

So, I am late in finding a halloween costume, as always. I wanted to make one this year, but I don't want something that I will never use again. I found this and thought it would be awesome to make. If I can figure out to do it. Any suggestions?

edit: hopefully this will work, bah!

Hey hey. I want to get rid of my wardrobe doors and replace them with fabric of some sort. My friend has done this with bright pink leopard print fake fur, I don't want anything too similiar but equally as funky. I'm looking for a cheap, quick idea... I am having a party this saturday (today is wednesday) and I'd love it to be up by then. Any ideas on patterns and stuff ?? Maybe something a little creative .. yet quick and easy to do !!!
Thanks...

hey.
i'm being a stewardess for halloween.
i have a dark blue skirt-suit thing that's from the early '90s (i think) that has a cute pleated skirt and a gaudy suitjacket with big padded shoulders and a big belt around the waist. i'm wearing a white blouse underneath it and i have a pin that looks like an airline thing. i also have a beige toiletre (sp?) bag my brother got from air france (it's actually kind of cute) when one of his bags got lost and they had to return it late. or something. hah. so i'll use that as my purse. i have my mother's shoes (whee. vintage!) from when she was young that are the same shade of beige as the bag. it's either that or red shoes. or maybe white. hmm.

white shoes or beige shoes? the beige might make the bag look so not-out-of-place.

any more suggestions on how to be stewardess-y? maybe i can hand out candies or something as an "on-flight snack". hah. do they possibly (sp?) sell little bags of peanuts or anything at wal-mart?

thanks! :].

I've been thinking about a halloween costume. I hate doing these at the last minute. Halloween is my favorite holiday and therefore I tend to put a lot more effort into it than I have the past two years. It's kind of tough though with the schedule I've had lately.

Last year Sirinek and I were going to be Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, but unfortunately our plans fell through and were unable to go out. He still has his Peter Pan costume, but I'm not really feeling Tinkerbell-ish. So I've been thinking about things to construct and I *REALLY* want to make some wings. I am thinking something batty - but I haven't made wings before, so I may have to do some trial and error.

Tomorrow I'm buying some 16 gauge wire and I already have some tights...but I'm wondering how I should attach the wires so that I can wear the wings. Hot glue and elastic? I need some sort of base. Any ideas?

My son just SHATTERED the huge 4 ft tall/wide mirror I had on my dresser. I have a bunch of huge and small chunks of mirror... is there anything creative I can do with it? I feel really bad just throwing it away when I know it can be used for stuff.

So how do I make a stencil?

KIDDING!

Long time lurker, first time poster, yadda yadda.

I'm a big nerd, so for Halloween, I decided to get all crafty and I made a stencil of the Cheshire Cat and taped it to my pumpkin, then carved it out. Here are the results:

Ok everyone, here's my dilemma: I'd love to go as an undead housewife for halloween, but so far I'm just a really pale, slightly bloody woman in a cute 1950's frock. My dream: to make it look like someone has stabbed me (in the neck or chest, preferably) with knitting needles. This is especially fitting because I'm often mocked for knitting absolutely *everywhere.*

I don't mind ruining a set of needles, but I can't figure out how to make the effect.
Ideas, anyone?
(if you've a better or easier fatal housewife injury in mind, let me know that too!)
