Nov. 6th, 2003 05:15 amhere's the nick cave doll i was talking about.
it didn;t come out quite as good as i had hoped...at all... but that's ok. it has been infused with extreme nick cave love and all that good stuff. i tried making the heada few differant ways, but it always ended up looking like a bird of a rat.
it's a younger nick, judging by the freakish mullety hairdo (which will relax after a little while. you know how yard is.).
i really wanted to make him a suit, but i'm not ready to tackle that. and i like my dolls simple. like those amish dolls.
he hasa big red heart sewn onto his chest under his shirt. i thought it was fitting.

so, I have access to an unlimited supply of iron-based clay. a bit crude, but adequate for candle holders and such...
any ideas for what could be made with ceramic clay? Votive cups and incense holders?
I also have several 3 pound bricks of sculpey. heh heh. joann's went out of business by me.

Holiday Ideas
Nov. 6th, 2003 11:16 amDon't know if anyone has posted about this seeing how I didn't find anything in the memories but....
Better Homes and Gardens has a section called 100 Days of Holidays. I found it a while ago, but decided to post it since it's been helpful for me with decorating my apartment for the upcoming season.
Just in case anyone needs ideas of things for decorations or anything :-)

Nov. 6th, 2003 11:20 amI thought it was a cute idea when I came across a pattern to make your own underwear.Although Im having an EXTREMELY hard time doing so.It was all good until I went to sew on the elastic. My machine went all dumb, the bobbin thread bunched up and the elastic bunched all up.I was wondering if any of you have ever tried making these and had any helpful ideas? Thanks

Hello Grrls
Nov. 6th, 2003 01:05 pmI've just joined your community and thought I'd say hello. My name is nicole and i am a student at the Tyler School of Art, just outside of Philadelphia. I am a major in the Jewelry Design/Metalsmithing/CAD-CAM department. I'm also a seasoned knitter and seamstress. I tend to be very craft oriented in all I do and am interested to see what others are up to as well as getting some input on my own work...

sewing machine questions!
Nov. 6th, 2003 02:53 pmhey all.
by chance, does anyone own the brother xl-5130 sewing machine? here is a link to se it:
http://www.brother.com/canada/hsm/info/xl5130/xl5130_ove.html
if so, what are you thoughts?
the machine shows up on the canadian brother website, i live in buffalo new york which is very close to canada as you may know. i'm thinking this is a machine made for the canadians- this just leads to me to the every so basic question of...
are sewing machine needles universal? would i have a problem finding needles for this machine seeing as though canada is on the metric system?

colors AND lights
Nov. 6th, 2003 05:38 pmi just got my seveteen november magazine today. i think it's november. doh. it has pink on it.
anyway, there was an article about making your [dorm] room or whatever much more.. of a better place, i guess. lack of better words. anyway, it had some nice tips about where to position lights and such and putting pillows on the bed to make it sort of a sitting area as well.
nothing too spectacular or new. but i did like the idea of painting canvases (stretch canvases that is, not canvas boards) in a solid color (in the picture there were reds and yellows), attaching them to the wall with velcro (so they were removable for when you moved out of your dorm), and positioning those touch-push-lights, the round ones, behind them.. so that when you tapped the canvas, it would light up. sounds like a cute, simple idea.. plus it'd double as artistic square paintings in your room AND lights.
i was wondering how well this would work though, or if anyone has done this or anything similar. those touch-lights aren't too bright (and i'm imagining they'd be quite dim under painted canvases, especially since canvases are a bit thick and colors - such as red acrylic, is a thick paint, even if painted on thinly and evenly).. yeah. cause i'm thinking of perhaps doing something like this, or similar. one day. maybe.

It just occured to me. . . Moderator info
Nov. 6th, 2003 07:28 pmI didn't have an email addy handy on the info page if you needed to get a hold of me for moderator stuff. Our illustrious leader,
kimmercake, has one but mine was absent. So to fix this I put it down by the bottom of the page, but if you need it:

hi..
i found this community months ago and it usually has really great stuff and im entertained for hours looking around.
And youre all so artistic crafty so i was going to ask your advice.
I wanted to make a big collage-type thing on a wall of my room, made from a bunch of pages ripped from kids books. Like all the colorful nice little pictures that you find in story books all collaged on my wall. Im childish...it suits me. BUT my mom refuses to let me do it because she says it'll never come off the wall and..stuff.
So does anyone have any ideas for something similar i could do? Partly because i think its a good idea and partly to be able to say HA to mom...
thanks in advance if you can help
oh and i dont know if this counts as crafty but i make stuff out of clay

Nov. 6th, 2003 08:17 pmhey there everyone!
i found a site awhile ago (i do believe it was a consignment site) where someone was selling earrings made from shrinky-dinks that look like mixtapes. they were really awesome, and i'm having some trouble finding the site again. i'm also pretty sure i found it through craftgrrl, so if anyone knows what i'm talking about, please help me out! ^__^ thanks kids!

Legwarmers!
Nov. 6th, 2003 09:37 pmI just finished my first legwarmer! There will be a partner soon enough, but I couldn't wait to show everyone.

As it has no elastic and it instead contoured to fit, it looks a little silly when it is not on a leg:

Lion Brand Homespun in 'Barrington',
Worked in the round from the top down, K hook, dc all the way.
