One of my good friends was shot recently. It was in the hip, so he's in stable condition and will survive it all, but he's pretty depressed. I want to make him something so he knows hes cared about, he recently moved to Minneapolis so it would have to be something I could mail. I was thinking maybe a journal with art/letters or something, but that's not incredibly creative.
I usually make my boy friends messenger bags, but you know, that doesn't seem too fitting right now.
Any suggestions? The FAQ wasnt too helpful.
This boy is into independent films, alternative/punk/underground music, he's intelligent and incredibly funny and free spirited. so you know... a ducktape wallet wouldn't be suitable either for his personality or for the situation.
Thanks.

Oh yeah Im new to this community, I'll try to get some pictures up.

Alright, so I know it says no posting stuff JUST about selling stuff.

But this is REALLY important, and I beg for your mercy on this.
For I am only trying to be a responsible business woman.

If it REALLY bugs you, please let me know and I'll delete it.

A few updates re: trisaratops.com....

So my e-mail fucking sucks and A LOT of your guys' orders were deleted.
So if any of you ordered something from me, and haven't gotten a response or anything from me, PLEASE e-mail me as soon as you can so I can get started on getting those out to you. I DEEPLY apologize.

Also, I just got a new sewing machine. So none of that printing-stencils-on-already-made-canvas-bags crap. All my products will me 100% made by me. That means they may get a little more expensive, but it also means they are WAY more worth the price. And can be even MORE custom made than before.

I have almost every pattern for any type of bag EVER. And if not, I can get one. So let me know what you want, and I will grant it.

Thanks for your help and understanding, guys!

hey, for xmas I am making (among other things) beaded curtains for my boyfriend cause I know he really wants them, and they're crazy expensive for decent ones around here.

the thing is I have no clue how to go about doing this, I mean it can't be that hard, but I can't seem to find any sort of help or directions online about it... so I figured I'd look here. I want it to be the best quality possible, but I have no clue a-what to hang em from, and how to go about attaching them securly, b-what string to use, and how to knot it at the ends so the beads don't fly off, c-what kinds of beads to use. I am thinking either the little tiny plastic (or whatever) beads that I've seen most beaded curtains made of, or just making my own beads out of magazines. The latter one sounds a lot more difficult because the last time I tried doing that I failed miserably, and also I want there to be a pattern on the curtains which means some beads would need to be a solid color and that might be a real bitch to pull off if I'm making em out of magazine strips. But then if I do the little-beads idea... well I am probably going to need like 10,000 beads cause I need several layers in the curtains to make them thick enough that you can't see through! and I'm worried that will exceed my budget cause I'm really broke.

Sooo any help would be appreciated, thanks :D

"Tea Bags" For The Eyes- to help soothe and revitalize the eyes

Purchase unbleached tea bags (or make them from muslin or cheesecloth) and fill with: elder flowers, chamomile flowers, eyebright, calendula flowers, blackberry, fennel seed & rose petals.

Elder & Eyebright: Two of the more gentle herbs used for centuries to soothe the sensitive area around the eyes. They are also reputed to reduce wrinkles.

Chamomile: 17th Century herbalist Nicholas Culpeper said chamomile "taketh away weariness" and depression. Estheticians use it to reduce puffiness around the eyes.

Calendula: A well known herb for the skin which reduces swelling and comforts irritated eyes. It also counters bacterial and fungal infections.

Blackberry: The astringency of blackberry works to reduce soreness and redness in the eyes.

Fennel: Prescribed by ancient physicians both for eye problems and to prevent the aging of the skin. Longfellow wrote that fennel was "gifted with wondrous powers, lost vision to restore."

Rose: Roses are as healing as they are fragrant. They are highly antiseptic & rejuvenating to delicate skin, and their scent is said to be the most relaxing on earth.

Directions for use:
Place the tea bags in warm water, steep for several moments and place the comfortably warm and moist tea bags on closed eyes. Recline and relax for twenty minutes. Do not reuse tea bags.

i thought of an idea last night but i'm not sure if it's possible to do without setting my house on fire. you know those tall 7 day candles they sell in the grocery store? the ones encased in glass? well i thought it would be cute to cover them in christmas fabric for a nice looking cheap gift but i'm not sure if the glass heats up so much that it will set the fabric on fire. i have used these candles to mod podge tissue paper before and i never had a problem with it but will fabric be a lot more flammable? should i just try it and watch it while it burns?

I know someone asked this forever ago, but I can't find the post. I am going to be on a plane for 7 hours this sunday and was hoping to get in a lot of crocheting. Only problem is I don't know what I can bring on the plane with me. I thought someone said that crochet hooks were all right (???) but I am pretty sure no scissors, right? Bah...I don't know. Any help would be wonderful. I need to get my butt in gear and start working on all my holiday gifts. I figure airplane rides are a good way to get things started. So let's hope they allow my crochet hooks! Thanks again everyone...Tai

I am a beginner . . . and just finished by first shawl. Made with 2 skeins of Caron Simply Soft. It took probably about 4 hours in total. It was extremely easy and quite fun. Here are some pictures.

Hey everyone,

So I've been searching for good instructions for awhile, and I finally found a decent instruction page on how to make pinhole cameras, but I'm horribly confused about the "shutter," where to place it, and how it all works.

Does anybody have any tips?

Hmm, I have some piggy slippers, but one of them is all flat and kinda torn up in the back. They aren't too old, and they're really soft and adorable, so I don't want to just throw them out, but what could I possibly make out of them? They are Joe Boxer brand, and they are kind of like flip flops with plush piggy heads for the tops. They are sooooooo soft and cute, I just can't see throwing them out.

Sorry for a repeat question here - I couldn't find the previous answers for this in the FAQ, but where do I buy citric acid?

I can't order offline because I don't have a credit card and because I need it now.
I've read that you can buy it at a pharmacy but I don't really know where to look exactly.
Is it something I can pick up at Michaels, or Walmart?

Edited to note:
Thanks for the help everyone. I found out that Nutter's Bulk and Natural Foods carried 1 or 2 kg bags of citric acid. For those of you unfamiliar with Nutter's, I'm pretty sure its only found in Canada in AB, SK, MB, and NB. I don't really consider it a health store although it does sell herbs, and such, but to me it's all about the bulk candy. I was thinking this afternoon about whether I should scratch the bath bomb idea or fork out the money to order from the states, when I remebered that Nutter's was where I had bought all my epsom salts and sea salt the first time I decided to make bath salts. So I phoned them up and found my citric acid!

Thanks again for all the suggestions!

Well, normally I don't pay much attention to the "Giving Trees" around town, because a lot of them ask for cd players or handheld games, or other things out of my price range.. But one caught my attention, and I grabbed it.. It's an 8 year old girl looking for "crafts, books and games"..

Here's the problem. I'd love to get her some crafty stuff, but when I look up 8 year ranged crafts (like in the memories/faq section), all I come up with are paper bag, egg carton and toilet-paper roll crafts. I'd really like to get her something more substantial, something that might keep her occupied for a while. But I'm at a total loss for what would work. I'm assuming knitting and crocheting are out of the question, but maybe some simple cross stitch projects?

Any suggestions for crafts, books or games would be greatly appreciated, as children that young are really a mystery to me. What is a kid that age really wanting with that kind of request? Thank you for your help!

Edit: Wow! This is amazing! Just a few minutes ago, I was completely lost, and now there are tons of ideas! You grrls (and guys) are fantastic! Thank you so much!

OT

I know this is a little OT and I am sorry, but I know you are all creative and I'm lacking that about now. My uncle works for a NASCAR driver and they are trying to find mottos for their team. My aunt asked me for an idea, but the only thing I can come up with is "It's not how good you are, it's how bad you want it."

Any other ideas?!

*Thanks*

merci

I'm trying to make this poncho

And, here are the directions:

Starting at top ch 51.
Row 1: 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 5 ch, * 2 dc in next ch, 1 dc in each of next 6 ch, repeat from 6 times more-54 dc. Join with a sl st to top of ch-3 at start. Do not turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, work * 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, repeat from * 8 times more, work to end-63 dc, join.

I'm stuck on row 1 where it says "join with a sl st to top of ch-3 at start."

Please help, thank you.

I really wish I had the time to personally reply to all your comments. I just want to say thanks so much for the really inspiring ideas. I think I'm going to end up giving him a quilt I finish, maybe some letters, a handmade sketchbook, he loves to draw, and maybe make a zine, have it become a collaborative effort, all of his old friends from around here add something. I'll probablly make some tapes. I love the phone card idea and the 101 thigns to do while off your feet. You guys are all very creative.
He is more than likely coming back when he's out of the hospital, in a week or two, so I think I'll try to make something that isn't much of a ' you live far away and i miss you ' gift. The phone card is still a great idea, because he's such a freaking nomad and free spirit and has lived in like 4 different cities in a year, plus he's just so easy to be comfortable around and easy to love. he has friends all over.
anyway.. thanks again... Ill post pictures when im done, ill take a picture of a messenger bag i made if i can track down somebody i gave one to.

oh yeah, and the best gift my friend is going to recieve, whether he needs it or not..
A goddamn sponge bath, from this stunning gal!

My friend recieved a large amount of candles in small glass jars (these, the glass candles) and she's looking to sell them as a fundraiser for her (and my former) glee club. They're not in the paper packaging, and we're looking for an easy way to personalize them and make them a little bit more interesting and cute - we are open to all suggestions.

Thanks ladies!
