anyone know any uk based sites [or sites that deliver to the uk, not too expensively] that sell marbles for making marbles magnets?
also, magnets...small magnets...

I took an easy ribbed hat pattern I use for almost all my hats and used a bunch of this red 'fun fur' yarn paired with caron 'simply soft' yarn for this insanely fun hat.
I also made one for a toddler.

...and a question...
who here knows of some really good on-line vendors for yarn?

This is my second stencil shirt i've made for my boy.I used laminate for the stencil and red dimension paint for the paint.I think it turned out really well :)

I think this is my first post ever, and sadly, it's not about any crafts I've made. LOL

I know that some of you ladies love to find new and creative uses for AOL tins. I have five three ONE tin that I am willing to give away, completely free of charge.

Email me @ drunkenatheist@livejournal.com with your address & LJ name and I will happily mail them to you. Please leave "AOL Tins" in the subject line, or I might think it's spam & delete it.

Thanks! I love seeing the things you very skilled and talented grrls are able to put together!!!

I am looking for the weirdest, most unusual, as in "Wow! that is crazy!" soap and candlemaking molds.

I am looking for things in the:
Cthulhu Mythos theme (I know it's not likely, but I would give my next child for it!)
Horror Movie themes
Day of the Dead festival themes
Molds of medical equipment
Molds of bones, skulls, etc.
Tastefully done adult themes (Not the badly done phallic ones I have seen. No veins please! Eww!)

Barring all that is there tutorials out there for creating your own molds? Or places that will create molds for you from drawings and sketches?

Thanks so much!

Hi everyone,

A friend here at work just asked me if I could think of some crafty way for her to give money to her nephew for Christmas. She wants to give him $100, but she doesn't just want to stuff it in an envelope. She'd like some fun way of giving him the money, and she'd like it to be somehow crafty. I'm going to think about it for a while, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment and I wonder if any of you crafty girls and boys have ever done something like this before? She mentioned a "money tree", but I can't picture it. Any ideas??

Thanks in advance!

Hey. I was wondering if any crafty people here have suggestions for making children's bookends (that don't look tacky) out of household items?
[identity profile] fraxl.livejournal.com
i've got a box of magazine cut-outs and a very boring white window shade in my bedroom.... i think they've been flirting with each other for a while and it's about time they were fused into a big beautiful collage.

i'm wondering what kind of adhesive/glue i could use that would keep the pictures sticking to the shade, but still allow me to roll the shade up on sunny days. any ideas?

i'm considering just decoupaging it and leaving it permanently down, but i want to see if there's some miracle glue i just dont know about first.

thanks everybody!

Alright, I know we've all done it at some point or another - written notes to friends or crushes and folded them into that cutesy heart shape. Well, for reasons I'll not go into at the moment I need to do that again, but it seems I've forgotten how! I've googled "origami hearts", "folded paper hearts", etc. and haven't found the same kind I'm thinking of. There was a way we folded them so that there was a little pocket in the front of the heart and all the tabs got folded in the back. Does this make sense to anyone? Can you help me remember how to fold a heart, step-by-step?

Muchos gracias, senioritas.

what crap. i need to practice before i make more. i bought like 20 different kinds of ribbons and foam things. but i'm made the first one didn't come out better :(
[identity profile] xitsmylifex.livejournal.com
I'm trying to make a floral letter for my wedding guestbook table (a giant b). I figured out the general construction of the foam underneath it.. only problem is that I'm not sure if I can get foam in the size that I need. Basically it's a about 1.5 feet to 2 feet tall and i'm not sure how wide. I can get the round foam to glue the flowers onto easily, but where can I get a rectangular block long enough for the edge? And if I can't get it that long, how would be a good way to glue blocks together to make it long enough that I need without it falling over on the table? It will be standing up so you can see the B easily, so it needs to be made well enough to stand on its own. Would a hot-glue gun work? Or would that melt the foam? What other ways could I glue it together so it holds?

TIA! :-)

Here are some of my favorites of the things I've been making lately. )

Hi,
I am going to have access to a laminating machine this weekend and I was wondering wether there were any interesting crafts that I could do that would utilise it.
I thought of laminating stamped Christmas decorations, but other than that, I'm pretty stumped.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
[identity profile] warheart.livejournal.com
i had another idea today about making christmas presents for my younger cousins. there is a very popular store near me having a sale on t shirts with cute slogans on them 3 for 10 bucks. i thought of buying them and making one of these kinds of bags with it. has anyone made one of these bags? i made one but it was for myself so i was pretty ghetto about it. i used shoelaces as the cords. i want to know what other types of cords i could use that would be cuter than shoelaces lol. also i want to line it with another fabric so that the bag doesn't sag down when there's stuff in it due to the stretchyness of tshirt material. what kind of fabric should i use?
thanks everyone, this is my favorite community ever :)

I have been making marble magnets like a fiend (just like everyone else in the community) and my handy tube of E6000... Well, it burst. Yeah, burst. I've looked through the FAQ's and maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but is there any way to get this stuff off of fabric? Like my favorite blue jeans that I was wearing. I was able (with some hardcore scrubbing and then a shower) to get it off of my hands, out of my hair, and out of the grooves of my ring.
And I'll be damned, I was barely even squeezing the tube. The end of it came completely undone--I can only guess it was faulty manufacturing?

I was snooping around the internet looking for something about how to make holes in plexiglass (rather than straight cuts) and if I could do it with a dremel, when I found this cute board topic with somecrafty nerds beefing up their pc's. Scroll down and you'll see the nifty flames on one person's computer. Also, if anyone knows if I can use my dremel and what attachment(s) is best, please post!

Update 8:53 PM: I used the carbide cutter on the 1/2 inch holes and it worked like a dream. I had to swirl it a bit to open up the holes wide enough, but it was ok because it allowed me to get good circles. Now I have 2 inch openings to do, hopefully my dremel will handle me running the thing around the circle rather than widening it from the middle (way too much work!). I'll post picks of this secret operation when I'm finished, tutorials and all!
[identity profile] ifmelfalls.livejournal.com
I don't know if this qualifies as crafty or me just being uncreative.
But I want to iron on letters onto the front zipper area of a plain black jacket and I can't think of something cute or nice to write. I was thinking of maybe "dream" or "daze" or something.
To give you some guidance of me I like to read, write, craft(duh), and umm...ya.
One or two words would work.
Thanks!

Hey everyone. I am thinking about making all of my friends wristbands that snap together. Im going to put a design or a word on them as well, but I was wondering, what would be the best (low price) material that would be sturdy, and just look good? Thanks :)

I work at an afterschool center and tomorrow is friday, our craft day. So of course being the procrastinator that I am, I haven't planned a craft. Here'd the deal-

- 2nd and 3rd graders
- endless amounts of supplies
-15 -20 mins tops

(we've already done the turkey hand thing.)

Thanks :O)

Bra Straps

[identity profile] geeky-linz.livejournal.com
Hello,

I was wondering where I could buy cheap bra straps? I have a couple shirts I'd like to make into tank-tops. I usually use bra straps for the straps because I really like the fact that they're adjustable. BUT, I've run out of crappy bras to cut up, and can't really justify mutilating a perfectly good one.

Thanks for your help:)

I looked in FAQ, but I didn't see any thing dealing with my topic. So, sorry if it was there and I missed it.

I was in Walmart tonight and browsed through the entire craft section. (oh it was so much fun and I want SO many things.) Anyways, I came across this little glass etching kit. He had two types of liquid type thing. I read the directions and it says to put one on it and then let it sit and then go over with the other one for the design. It was by Dreamcoat, I believe. Anyways, let's get to my question. Has anybody used this before? And, if so, does it work? By the way, I think it was under four dollars.

hi everyone.

i'm hoping to get some feedback for a gift i want to make for my mother. she had a heart attack on tuesday, and i want to do something to show her how much i love her. now, i already know what i want to make her...i'd just like to see if anyone has had experience with the type of thing i want to do.

my mom is a quilting FIEND, and i want to make her a little wall quilt. because i have such a perverted sense of humor (which she loves about me), i want to transfer the hospital x-rays and internal probe shots of her heart to fabric and make the quilt out of that. now my question is: how do i scan the x-rays to make the transfers? i've tried just using my regular ol' scanner, but it's just coming out black.

has anyone tried scanning x-rays or transparencies or anything like that? how did you do it, and what kind of success did you have?

Hi all,
I'm heating my records at 200 for 1-2 minutes, but they cool so fast I can't mold them. Any ideas? If I heat them longer, they stick to the bowls I'm heating them on.

Thanks!

i've been watching all the people here making duct tape wallets and checkbook covers and purses, etc...
and i teach middle school art so i see the kids carrying this stuff around all the time, too.

but today i saw the coolest duct tape thing ever...
i get a magazine called school arts which is an art education magazine. it has articles about art ed, lesson plans, visual aids, etc.

in the latest issue they had an article about a contest called "stuck at prom" sponsored by duck tape brand duct tape. they challenge high school students to create formal wear entirely out of duct tape! the resluts were phenomenal! i was floored! i was running around school today showing everybody and we were all just amazed! kids are incredible artists!

anyway, here's a link to some past winners in a slide show
http://www.octanecreative.com/ducttape/fashion/prom/contestants/viewer_images/viewer.html
and
a link to an article about this years winners with photos of their amazing creation.
http://www.ducktapeclub.com/tales/article.asp?PID=13

these are entire dresses and tuxedos and accessories made only out of TAPE! its so cool! this years winners even made wigs out of duct tape!

is there anythign i need to be aware of when i turn a pair of my jeans into along skirt? they fit perfectly in the waist, but the crotch is low and baggy. i was just going to cut out the inner leg seams and sew the legs together, i couldnt find anythign in teh FAQ...
[identity profile] laila-sama.livejournal.com
Okay, I tried to stencil a skirt with "POLICE LINE: DO NOT CROSS" spray painted across the butt, most of it worked finr but for the P and O they bled together into one great blob of confusion, plus about a dime sized blotch went through to teh other side >.< I should think things through first. But anyways, what do you gals suggest I should do to fix/mask/distract from this mistake

Is it ok to paint in a shirt without washing it? I can't remember.

and I've told customers that they can mix varnish and paint together to protect the painting a little more. Like if they stencil on a wall. I'm pretty sure this would work, but I'm not 100% positive.
[identity profile] letmeburyem.livejournal.com
Thanks for the tips grls! I didn't have parchment paper, and the cooking spray didn't work all that well...so I just went with the reheat/peel trick.

I'm making a desk set for my niece, and I made two bowls, a CD holder, diskette holder, and pen holder. I tried to make a picture frame, but I couldn't get the cuts even and it wouldn't stand up. Any other ideas? What else would you need for a desk set?

Thanks again!
