A reeaaally long time ago someone (from the UK I think?) showed us a little toy penguin she knitted. Has anyone seen a pattern for toy penguins? I am willing to go to the library to find a suggested book.

EDIT: Never mind, I found it! It's very cute, you should look!

Anyone know where I can get 'em? (Those little mirrors often embroidered onto Indian clothing, wall hangings, etc.)

I'm moving into a new place, and my bedroom - anthough only big enough to fit a bed and mayeb a night table, has french doors that open onto a balcony :) (the only reason I'm puttign up with the bedroom :-P) I can't decide if i want to put uup curtains on each door, or color in the glass. Here's what I mean. Each door's glass is divided into a few panes, and I'd like to have each pane different colors...red, blue, green, yellow, purple.....does that make sense? Here's my dillema. I'm not sure hwo to do that. I know they make semi-transparent paint that peels off, btu I'm thinking more like clear contact paper...or something of the like. You know what I mean? so I can just cut it into squares and spal em on, then take em off if i tire of them.

also, i'd imagine since we're a creative community here, that our rooms can get pretty funly. if you wouldn't mind, i'd love to see pictures of crafts in yoru bedrooms, and/or pics of yoru bedrooms as a whole. I'm tryign to decorate a small room on a (non-existant) budget :-)

Does anybody have any T-Shirt Surgery How-To links???

I see all this cool stuff, but I don't know how to go about doing it and I don't want to ruin this t-shirt I have. Something with really idiot-proof directions and a couple of different styles to choose from would be nice.

I'm going out tonight in purple and the only shirt I have is a t-shirt that definitely needs some sprucing up.

Thanks in advance!!!

Okay, so the DIY project my bf and I have been working on -- a new computer for me -- has not been so great as of now.

We have successfully bought a case and ordered quite a bit of parts (we still need almost $100 for all the other good stuff -- hard drives, disk drives, keyboard, etc.). We have also successfully dremelled a nice rectangle in the left side to glue the window on.

Then we bought the paint. We bought spraypaint primer, burgundy spraypaint color, and krylon matte finish. We applied primer, and it turned out good. We let it dry for a day or so since we didn't want to inhale anymore fumes and I got sick for a day or so (not because of the paint though; just felt ill). Then we painted the first coat of spray paint and knew we'd need another coat or two because it turned out quite dark because of the gray primer.

This is where the problems started (or as my bf would say, the craziness ensued). Newspaper stuck to parts of the paint, so we had to rub those off and then rubbed paint off by accident. We applied a second coat, let it dry... a bug landed on our paint, and we brushed it off and smudged paint. AHH. Dust or something got onto the paint as it was drying, but luckily, as the paint was nearly dry, and we were able to get most of it off. Little tiny bumps here and there, but no big deal.

We applied more paint to parts we messed up. On one of the panels, our fingerprints really pushed themselves in there, even though we had let the panels out to dry for hours, and everything else was completely dry. More paint. Frustration, frustration.

Then we thought we were done. We applied the matte finish (since gloss = ew, too shiny). So far, so good. Panels looked great. Then today, the bf calls me and tells me that the finish did some "weird clumpy thing" and that is as best as he can describe it. Basically, most of the panels have made it okay, but the front and window panels that everyone will see mainly are pretty much fucked up. Perhaps it was too cold and the finish couldn't handle it or something.

And we're broke, after spending on parts and paint. Damn, we are pissed. Before we go and splurge whatever money we can gather for this project on the paint and whatnot (and sandpaper, since we're going to have to fix up some areas.. blah).. do you girls (and the couple of guys on here) have any suggestions? I haven't seen the "weird clumpiness" that has happened to it, but I'm thinking -- that isn't good. Any and all help is greatly appreciated..

Can someone tell me how to get the black and silver part off of this lightbulb so I can make a lightbulb vase? It's a funky lightbulb from Walmart, and it doesn't look right in a lamp. So, when I looked under the FAQ it said pull off the silver tab, but it's not a tab, it looks like a glob of silver junk. Any ideas?

OK,

Since I'm finally done with my major project at work, I can spend the rest of the week before school starts crafting. Yay!

Anybody got any groovy ideas for spicing up plain jain bras & undies?

In the bra category, I have a pink one, a black one, and a white one that are just screaming for a sexy makeover.

I have a print gocco, so screening is an option, but I need other ideas or how-to's... bows, ribbons, lacey stuff, new/different straps, etc.

Thanks in advance!

It's been aeons since I've posted here, so here is something new.  I made these lounge pants as gifts for my neighbors at our Christmas party.  A few of them put the pants on during the party -- the ultimate compliment!  (I'm in the back row hiding my store-bought pj's!)

Does anyone know of a source for beaded ornament kits like this?  I've found them at The Cracker Box, but I'd like to know if there are more out there.  Thanks!

These were made about 27 years ago by my siblings and I.  All but one are from The Cracker Box.

hello - i need some help. i am desperately trying to locate a 1" hole punch. i've tried two michael's stores, joann's, and walmart. no luck. i've looked online, too and can't seem to find one. does anyone have one and remember where they got it? even a brand name? i saw someone who had one that had a glass/plastic top so you could actually see through it to determine exactly what part of the image you would be punching. any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Hello everyone! I've been looking through the FAQ, but I didn't find what I was looking for. I hope you guys girls have some ideas for me :)

I have a friend who lives in Latvia (which isn't exactly close to where I live) and I want to send her a gift by mail. That means it can't be really big, and I also want it to be original.

She's a huge Lord of the Rings fan, so I thought about doing something related to that.. but I still couldn't think of anything.

Thanks in advance!

Hello all:) I starting making a collage on my wall of just random things that most people would normally throw away, but for some reason I can't...such as movie ticket stubs, tickets from attractions, certain receipts, and other little things like that. I want to transfer everything to a canvas so that when I move it will be easier to take and I can keep it to treasure forever, haha. So my question is, should I use tape or glue to put everything onto the canvas? I haven't worked with them before so I don't know how it'll go. This is also an ongoing project- I don't have enough stuff to cover the whole canvas now, this way here, I can keep adding to it when I have something new to put on. So tape, glue, or something else to get it all together? Any tips or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

sweetdisease, you mentioned you had a Gocco screenprinty-thing - I've been eyeing them for ages - what's your take on them? {Anyone with Gocco experience, please chime in!}Is it easy? High quality? What do YOU use it for? How large a pic can you make?

Does anyone want to participate in a traveling journal? (a la 1000journals.com)
I'm hoping to start one myself so I can keep the journal, instead of having to send it away to someone else, like other ones.
How many people would be interested in doing this?
You would have to pay for postage to the next person, but the book won't be too heavy so it shouldn't be very much.
If you want to do this, just reply with your email, and then I'll send out a group email when I get a bunch of people interested.
Thanks!
-Vanessa

(note: as of 11.30 pm tonight there are about 3 spots left, after those three are filled (i will say on my personal journal) I will close admission to the traveling journal list until further notice.)

does anyone know how to remove resin from measuring cups and spoons? I'm sick of having to buy new ones. Is there any solvents I can use or anything?

Here's a question for all you knitters out there. Is it possible to use circular needles and circular needles only to make a hat? I don't have/don't know how to utilize double pointed needles. Thank you muchly! Oh yes, & maybe a pattern that instructs how to finish it off, if this is in fact *possible*? Hopefully this wasn't too silly of a question.

hi-

I live in a rather rural area, and there is only one tiny craft store that's within reasonable driving distance. So you can imagine my joy when I discovered that a hobby lobby will be opening here within the next few months. My question is this...does hobby lobby carry jewelry making/beading supplies? Those are amongst my biggest craft obsessions, so I've been hoping that they'll have at least an aisle or two stocked with decent supplies. I know I could just wait and see when they open, but I'm highly curious and their website didn't give me a good enough idea of what they do and do not carry.

thanks!
