Hey Everyone
I was wondering if I could find d-rings anywhere besides a hardware store?
[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/defenestrator_/
Sorry to the person who last said this - it's so not about you in particular.

Can we please call a moratorium on everyone saying "i look fat" or "excuse my ugliness" or whatever every time they post pix with your body in it?

First, there's no reason for it, and we shouldn't be constantly reinforcing those message to ourselves. Second of all, when an average sized person posts "ewww I look fat" those who actually ARE quite large are reminded ONCE again that everyone thinks fat is a horrible thing to be.
(that part xposted)

So that this is not a text and complaint post only, these are the kitty hats I made for my nieces (and me) for Xmas. At the time I didn't know how to increase or decrease, so I just made a rectangle, folded it in half, stiched the two sides, and then gathered up and tied the ears.

******disclaimer- i checked the memories!*******

a friend of mine is transitioning from male to female. she has already had multiple surgeries, but in a few weeks she will have her final "bottom" surgery. we need ideas for a gift!

when she had her "top" surgery, we found an old lace bustier in a thrift store and basically decorated the hell out of it, paint, sequins, fake flowers, fringe, etc. she LOVED it.

so now i need to think of something else. i've thought of various pillows, with velvet folds in the shape of a vulva, or an applique with a really technical drawing. and i loved the vulva purse someone else posted recently, but i can't even think of how to make it.

she told my partner yesterday that she would love to have something else to hang up on the wall with the bustier, but if i can't think of anything she could hang, that's okay.

does anyone have any ideas? i know people in here are involved with v-day, any of you have any ideas?

wine corks

i checked the faq, so don't shoot me.

i have a billion wine corks that i want to make a bulletin board for my mom with. she & her new beau have recently started making wine at home so i think she'd like it.

my questions:
*are there any other patterns besides all of them going the same way or this:

*i bought an 11x17 corkboard from michaels thinking i would just cover the cork that is already there with the wine corks, but they don't fit perfectly. any ideas of what to take up the extra space with or a border i could use?

there are a bunch of craft gods in here, so i hope someone has ideas. thanks in advance!

does anyone have a recommendation for a double boiler pot I can use for soap making?

or a website that specializes in utensils for such activities?

thanks!

I had a snow day on friday. Instead of working on my paper like I should have been doing, I decided to work on my crafts. I did some crocheting for awhile...blah..got bored.
So I decided to take another look at the book my brother and his wife got me for Christmas...it was like a...make jewelry out of paper clips book. whooo weeeee...I had some fun with it.
The picture behind the cut might be big...I warn you. I tried resizing...and I am still working on getting the hang of it.
All I used was..some string, some clasps, paper clips, nails, seed beads and random glass beads laying around the house.
I loooooove them...heh heh
Tell me what you think.

I made this a while back (it was one of my Dragoncon outfits last year), but never got around to posting pics. I'd had the base dress for a while, worn it once or twice, but found it to be boring - pretty, but boring. So, since I had a bag of scrap velvet sitting around, I had fun.

I finished making another bag yesterday. I don't think you can tell in the pictures, but the buttons look a bit like tree bark and the white fabric has trees all over it. It's really cute and I love it.

Today, I started making a pillow. I scanned a photo from a Mates of State album onto fabric paper stuff and sewed it to this ultra neat paisley fabric. I didn't finish it, yet. It'll be finished by tomorrow. I'm excited about it.

thank you all!

hi, sorry if this is off the topic or has been asked before but I couldn't find it so,
do you know any shops online that sell cool fabrics? cause the shops in my town have very boring and plain fabrics.
thanx!

An otherwise useless shirt + a zipper from a jacket + black & pink thread + spraypaint + iron on transfers + photoshop + my boyfriend's handy sewing skills + Andy Warhol inspiration + John Lydon's face =

This! )
I'm pretty happy with the iron on transfers. I've already washed & dryed it and everything came out great. I think it helps that it isn't on stretchy material.

Just before Christmas,I saw these cute Elmo & Cookie monster T-shirts.I thought my wee wart would love them but $17.00 is a bit steep in my opinion for a child`s T-shirt(especially when we were broke) so I figured I could make them myself.

I already checked the FAQ and I have a question.

I want to stencil onto a white piece of cotton square fabric. Then I want to sew that onto the chest of a black cotton shirt. How should I go about sewing it on...should I use my machine?? or do it by hand using a certain type of stitch? I dont want it to look that handmade either, so the more proffessional looking, the better.

Sorry for another text post, but.....

I know there are some people on here from Vancouver, so i thought i would post that i FINALLY found a copy of Ready Made!

(maybe everyone else already knows where to get it, but i was getting frustrated!)

I found it at Mayfair News - 1535 W Broadway, the corner of Granville and Broadway, across from Chapters.

I was a little disapointed, cause i've already made a few of the things in the issue, but i'll still keep looking for it every issue. i think all the americans who talk about it all the time just hyped it up so much that it could never live up to it's own reputation!

i also picked up a somewhat pricey ($32.95 cdn, softcover) but VERY good book on making Resin Jewellery from Oscar's Books and Art, right next door to Mayfair. It's called Resin Jewellery, by Kathie Murray, published by A & C Black, London. it's very inspiring, lots of beautiful pictures. and i loved Oscar's, it was my first time in. highly reccommend that book store.

*if there's a problem with this post, feel free to delete it. but i think i'm allowed to post it?*

Please cut me some slack...I am very sick. I have been looking for the post where the woman had made a white scarf with red claws. Could someone find it for me. I looked through days of posts and must've overlooked it and I can't find it. Please help. Thanks

yaay sculpey.

does anyone know if it's possible to get tiny molds or cutters? i want to make less lumpy looking shapes. how difficult would it be to cut using a tiny stencil?

anyway.

i was looking through the faq and i saw a post about knitting mittens with this as one of the replies:

Someone told me there's a pattern floating around out there for a three-mitten set for 2 people to share: two regular mittens and one big one for sharing/holding hands. Awww....!

does anyone know about this pattern? i am 100000% interested in making these mittens. they sound awesome!

thanks so much, gals ;)

Help?

Hey yall :) I started to make a clock the other day out of Sculpey... I still have to attach the clock part, But I had some questions for you lovely people before I do that :)

Does anyone know if you can paint over Sculpey? I think you can, but Im not sure if you would use just regular acrylics, or something special? I need to paint the bears' eyes, the bees' black stripes, and I want to give the bears some accents...

And I had to put powder in the push mold, so the clay would come out without sticking, so the three o'clock bear looks like he's covered in powdered sugar... Is there any way to get that off, or will it come off when I paint and glaze it?

I want to take it to a craft show, but I don't know how much to charge for it, yanno? My dad said something like $60 but I think he was being nice... (NO Im not trying to sell in here, I promise)

Here's a pic, so you can get an idea :) )
