okay, so i made a lot of things today.

faux fur + vinyl = vegan friendly pouches!

stitchstich! )

in lieu of making yet ANOTHER post:

(and, in jest of the typical posts that involve pictures of our bodies and, gasp, our stomach's, i realize i have tight abs. haha. kidding.)

i don't own any pants that have belt loops! and that includes a few pairs of jeans in my closet. (these pants actually have some sorry excuse for a decorative belt loop at the back). but, this holds up surprisingly well as i've been jumping around the room trying to get it to fall off.

the obligatory a$$ shot )
also, older pictures i never posted )

Ack! I was browsing Pier1.com for lamps and came across these:

See them here

Oh man! Those would be so easy and fun to make! Gotta do it! If only i had curtains or something...hmmm...

I made my daughter a new summer dress. I actually made a couple, but this is the only one that fits right now, and it's still a little large. It's Butterick 5439, and is altered just slightly from the original pattern (Pocket is added and there is velcro instead of buttons on the shoulder straps because I didn't have buttons at the time.). It looks really comfy and will be cool during the summer. It was also really easy to make (one evening.), and uses a snall amount of fabric, so I'll probably be making more.

I'm wondering if i can make something... but i don't know what it's technically called. ya know those sticker-looking things that come off the plastic via you scratching it off onto something hard? kinda like a tattoo-looking thing, but for plastic stuff?

anyway, if anyone knows what that's called (i feel so uneducated here), or if it's possible to make that... please let me know. given all the super cool and complex-looking stuff that can be made in the FAQ, THIS doesn't seem like rocket science... :P but i'd like to make some. :)

thanx in advance

[EDITED.... thanx for the info. i now know the proper name :) back to the FAQ page for me]

Okay, I cannot cut a straight line to save my life. I'm cutting out my first patterns ever (god bless the $2 pattern sale), and it's taking so long it's painful. It took me two hours to cut out a pattern that has eight skirts, and I have six more packets to go. Is there anything I can do to help me cut better/straighter/faster without ruining the pattern? It's giving me a major headache.

I don't know if anyone knows about this or not, but it has lots of crafty/diy ideas, mostly fashion and accessories. :D

I found it through About.com.

1) is there any way to get the front advertisements off of those magnets? i have a ton from papa john's, but i can't just make magnets out of them by gluing paper to the front; it will show through! :(

2) is there any way to fix a lamp if its pull-chain has somehow been pulled ... i dunno. off the mechanism? i went to turn on my lamp this morning, and the cord pulled out to its farthest extent and STAYED there. i figure some crafty chicas in here might know a bit about lamp-wiring.

thanks in advance! you guys are amazing. ^_^

Does anyone know where I can find those plastic plate and marker sets that you can draw on? I've looked in Pat Catan's and they've never had them.

I resently brought some resin. I have never used resin before and have no idea what kind of moulds I can use. I'm not one for spending money on buying things I'ld preffer to use items I find around my house.
What can I use for moulds?
I understand you can use ice cube trays?
Can you use tin foil/cling film/plastic bags?

A while back (last week or so), I posted about quitting smoking using cross stitch alone. Well kids, I'm ashamed to say it, but Friday when I get paid I'm investing in The Patch. Apparently busy hands alone just won't cut it.

Sigh. Thanks again for all the words of encouragement and advice, wish me luck!

i found a cool little tutorial on silkscreening today and thought i'd share:
silkscreening (pdf file)
they have a couple different techniques, with the embroidery hoop method i use at the bottom. i thought i'd post because i've seen several questions about silkscreening lately.

The Incredible $5 Sewing Machine

I just bought a Brother vx-1020 sewing machine for $5 at St. Vincent de Paul in Apache Junction. (in strip mall at the NW corner of Apache Trail at Meridian) I took it home and it works! I am learning how to use it atm, as there are no instructions and so far I figured out almost everything I need to know (I think). It seems to sew better on woven fabrics than on knits, but I am knitgurl with a passion, so I have to figure out how to adjust the bottom tension. I will use this machine till I find a better one. But for now, I am back in the sewing business! Hooray for $5 well spent.

If you live in Mesa, Arizona, (or Apache Junction or Gold Canyon), there are still two more used sewing machines left at that thrift store, or there were this morning. One is an old pink Necchi that has a note that says everything works except for the bobbin winder, so I didnt buy it for $7.50. And there is a Sears Kenmore there that supposedly works, but its pretty old, and mondo heavy because it is made of steel so I didnt spend the $7.50 on it.

I found some awesome, plain white ceramic plates at a discount store for really cheap. I got two of them, thinking that I could get some ceramic paint to personalize them. But every time I read the ceramic paint bottle instuctions at the store, it said that I shouldn't use the paint on a surface that would hold food.
I looked at several different brands, and all had the same warning, so I didn't buy any.

Should I look somewhere else/hold out for paint that can be used on a plate that will hold food (ie: what brands?)?
Or does no such thing exist?
Is there a sealer that I could use to make these paints safe?

Thanks lovely ladies. I figured I should consult you before spending all that money.

HELP!

I have a ton of button-like pins and I need some good ideas on what to do with them. They're really old, from the movie The Perfect Storm. I work at the movie theater, and a guy who also works there gave me 89437474 of these pins. I want to cover the fronts of them with pictures and give them to my friends. I have packing tape and Mod Podge available, but I get paid tomorrow so I can go get whatever is necessary. Any suggestions? Please help!

Hello, again. I'm the girl who's trying to organize her craft space. I've come REALLY far and I can't wait to post pictures of the final result! However, there is a boil on the butt of my craft space. )

ah, my lovely crafty ladies. i hit up the gadzooks, with their MARVELOUS closing down sale (which, i'm sorry to see them go, but quite glad that they have shirts for $2) and i picked up a shirt that says "My boyfriend is out of town."

now, this is always true for me, as my boyfriend is long-distance, and i want to add something underneath that quote pertaining to that, and i have NO ideas. anyone else have any?

****i'm looking more for cute, sappy, not flirty.

My class made initial cards tonight. This one is for the Olive Branch Emporium a little overpriced boutique thats going to be carrying my cards (yay me)

Its made with little metal letter stickers, some making memories paper, vellum and black cardstock.

Even better news, my class attendance picked up so now I'm getting an attendance bonus. Woohoo!

So I got the 'cute sew' a couple of weeks back, as a reward of job security. I have done some practicing with it as the tension seems to loosen pretty easily, and I am sort of rough when guiding the fabric and have broken needles.

So color me proud when I actually finished a project!

as a gift for a friend who I am trying to lure into the world of knitting.
